How Much Should You Study To Be Successful?

Study To Be Successful

A few weeks ago I wrote these 2 important blog posts: “What’s The Minimum Needed To Trade Penny Stocks?” and “Are You Studying And Working The Wrong Way?” as sadly far too many people think they can become my next Millionaire trading challenge student by putting in the minimum money and minimum effort.

Download the key points of this post as PDF.

So, you must ask yourself this same question and be honest with what’s the best answer for you as we’re all different!

I’m sorry to break it to you, but NOTHING in life worth doing comes easy and that is especially true in the quest to become a millionaire. That’s why there are so few millionaires in the trading world, because it’s damn tough and you need to work harder than you ever imagined on your preparation.

That’s why I make videos like this new one I just posted:

And my team has even transcribed it because the words I speak are SO important, so even my valued deaf students need to understand this:

We have an extraordinary opportunity right now. It’s unbelievable. And I don’t want you missing out on any one of them. There’s money to be made on the way up and on the way down. You can make money on both sides of the trade. I wanna tell you about a few things that I need from you. I need more testimonials. I already have a few millionaire students, but I want more. I want you so focused. I make a lot of video lessons and watchlists and commentary and trades and blog posts and software and websites. I don’t know if you guys realize this, but I want you to be a success story. If you study, this will last your entire life. But you gotta be dedicated. You have to embrace education. If you want success, like true success and lasting success, there are no days off. If you truly want to achieve in this world, you gotta learn every single angle. I want you to see the whole spectrum.

When you have a small account, you should be focused on learning the patterns and practicing what you’re best at. I share all my biggest losses, all my biggest gains, so that you can learn from the past to be better prepared for the future. You adapt. You test, test, test, and you refine, refine, refine. And you optimize in the pursuit of success. What can I do today to get closer to learning the actual formula of what’s gonna work best for you? Because I don’t care where you are in the world. I don’t care if you’re a man or a woman. Let me be the first one to tell you…and let me cut through all the negativity that you’ve heard in your life. I know that there’s people who have put you down and told you that you can’t do something. Let me tell you, you can achieve any single thing that you want in this lifetime if you’re dedicated, if you have diligence and perseverance and patience. The key is keep going forward. Don’t be afraid of your mistakes, learn from them. Because I want you to aim big. Frankly, I’m living the dream, and I want more people to do it, too. My Challenge has created more millionaires and will continue to create more millionaires because we want it the most, because we are the realest, and because I’m crazy. Shalom.

And trust me, I know how difficult it is to grow a small account, let alone try to become a millionaire in any short period of time…hence why I say to treat penny stock trading and your studying, as a marathon, NOT a sprint.

…but the good news is more and more of my trading challenge students are becoming millionaires within a few years like THIS guy and THIS and THIS guy, or at least well on their way like my hottest trading challenge student of the moment, Roland, who I previously featured in lessons worth reviewing again and again and again HERE and HERE, who also did a great trading recap from his $5,000+ profit on Thursday which set him nicely to also make $10,000+ on his overnight Bitcoin-related stock plays, all of which increased his weekly profits last week to over $30,000 and pushed his overall profits up past that key $300,000 milestone as you can see in the MUST WATCH VIDEO LESSON here:

But, if you ask Roland, or any of my top trading challenge students, they’re putting in 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 even 17 hours per day EVERY DAY into studying so this is no joyride and it’s because the stock market, and especially the penny stock market, is not an exact science so you must study the past to be better prepared for the future…and even if a pattern worked perfectly in the past, that doesn’t guarantee that it will work well in the future either…so often you’ll find yourself putting in hours and hours of research into something that will make you no money whatsoever in the short-term, and in fact might even cost you money when you try testing your thesis in the market.

Sounds, like fun, right?

Nope, trading and studying for trading, is not fun, nor is it easy, so anyone who tells you differently is lying…that’s why I take such pride in the millions of dollars I’ve made and the millions of dollars that my top trading challenge students have made as we have ALL ground out the hours and hustled our asses off to achieve what we have all in just a few years and that’s what it’s going to take for you to become my next Millionaire trading challenge student too!

But, the good news is that grind will shape you and mold you and help you develop into a mature and well-rounded person too and along the way you will learn so much about yourself, finance, psychology, Wall Street and the world so I’m prouder that all of my top students are actually amazing, humble, down-to-earth people despite their high six-and-seven-figures in the bank…as no matter what they choose to spend their money, they realize the struggle it took to acquire such wealth and freedom so they don’t take it for granted and they NEVER want to put themselves in a position where they will bet too much or get too aggressive and cocky in their trading where they could lose it all, or even most of all they made.

And that’s progress…as you will learn the trading world is full of gunslingers who have made large amounts, but due to improper preparation or training, they lose it all or the majority of what they’ve made for any number of reasons.

In fact, I don’t want you to think about studying just to acquire a lot of money and becoming successful, think about all the studying you’ll need to do in order to keep being successful and maintain your wealth, and continue growing it, long after you have reached that magical $1 million mark and later on too…and I’ll tell you right now that the more you study and build up your knowledge foundation, the better off you’ll be in the long run.

So, leave a comment below and tell me how many hours per day you’re going to study now…and don’t feel bad if you have a job or are in school or have family responsibilities, just be honest with yourself and with me!

Never forget that I have many part-time students too, like this guy, and while they might not have made millions trading, they have made an extra $10,000 or $20,000 or even $50,000 per year which just enhances their life too…so whatever works best for you, I encourage you to be dedicated in your studying and stock market preparation and be 100% honest with me and yourself too when you leave your comment as to how many hours per day you’re going to study from here on out!

Thanks for the article Tim! I’ve been spending about 4 hours per day over the last 8 weeks but the past few days I’ve gotten it up to 7! Going to try for even higher!

  2. Meddy

Every time I look at what I’m up against , I realise It s tougher than what I thought it would be. Yet, I m not a quitter, I hardly give in. You will hear about me , Tim, sooner or later . Meddy is in a mission and my name will prevail. I can’t wait for that moment. Studying is my first nature. If you you teach me how to land a space ship on the moon , I can’t see areason why I can’t do it.
    Mission had already began.
    Kind regards
    Meddy Dey

The oppotunity that you open up to me and my family is amazing and I am forever grateful for this, i am studying everyday, not as hard as Roland, I am working to get close to those hours. Tim.

I am definitely going to be another one of your millionaire success stories as well.

I am a working in progress ALREADY.

And the caliber to which your other millionaire students, also my Teachers, have taught has certainly imbued into my learning a balance of being grateful & humble as part of being a successful trader.

It has taken me a bit longer bc of life events & responsibilities, but THAT IS OK. Life happens.
It has sharpened my perseverance & resolve EVEN MORE.

Some say: Excuses excuses, BUT what must be realized is that we can not change other ppl we can only change ourselves!
And we must, like you always say: Adapt or die/perish.

You need more millionaire FEMALE Traders.
I aspire to be definitely be one.
I know that it will happen. I see it in my mind’s eye & know that it takes a certain type of responsibility & I am up for it!

I love technical analysis. It fascinates me beyond belief :))
I love the different strategies involved, the mental calculations that it takes, the patterns that form, the signs that form to show a good possibility, the signs that form to show a breakdown of a previous possibility to form a possible opposite trade!
I love how it challenges us psychologically to NOT make superfluous excuses-to call the truth-to congratulate in finding the truth in the chart, as you say.

I realize that I am speaking trading nerd language rn & I love being able to speak it!
My goal is to keep becoming extremely proficient in this art!
    In finding & doing!
No out of proportion fear- only humble confidence!

Studying technical analysis in your lessons is part of my lifeblood now.
    And you know it.
I don’t care what ANYONE says about me (haters are everywhere in this world)
    EXCEPT
for what my Teachers say to help me to become
a proficient, well rounded, astute yet humble, very profitable trader!

Yes, friends & family very well might take issue with a driven focuses person.
It has happened to me. It hurts, HOWEVER, we can not change others we can only change ourselves & how we react to them.
And learning to day trade has given me immeasurable insight into using something seemingly negative & finding a way to make it positive!
Striving towards a goal: STUDYING, is so vitally important that it is like breathing.

The only thing that will stop me from studying is when the Creator deems it to be my last breath, bc
all we *really* truly own outright if you really think about it is our
    WILLPOWER.

I am willing to keep studying AT LEAST 10-15+ PLUS hours a day because I even study while I am working & I eat a very healthy diet & work out so I have a LOT of energy.

Without going into too many details, I must say that I feel SO MUCH better here in Texas than in NYC
ESPECIALLY with so many huge changes going on in the world.
The tension was affecting my ability to feel safe & relaxed enough to trade.

    The terrorists will NOT win.

Having moved here to Austin, Tim, I KNOW that I made the right choice, and except for the darn hurricane Harvey that postponed my job opportunity 2 months ago,
    Everything is alined PERFECTLY now
for me to earn the money to fund my account & go go into the trades with SIZE & with solid risk/reward
& to cut the losses quick (BECAUSE I KNOW when a pattern is broken)
& I am NOT a gun slinging haughty type of person. ( WE take our responsibilities SERIOUSLY)

I overstand (not understand) OVERSTAND the magnitude of the world events & what repercussions this has for the money/system as we know it.

I AM SERIOUS AS CAN BE ABOUT MAKING SOLID TRADES & will not have to worry as much now that I have rearranged past goals/life situations to put me EVEN CLOSER to
    THIS
    GOAL.
    :))

EVERYTHING that you have done for your dedicated students has helped us.

EVERYTHING that you continue to do is a wise decision bc those of us who value it KNOW what to do with it WISELY.

Thank you for every little thing that you do for us Tim!
I think about hanging out/trading with you & the other mastery students one day/and often! & know that in my heart of hearts that it WILL happen in time.

You have my dedication. Even the haters know it :))

    I remain, respectfully,
    your dedicated,
    bank_a_tronic,

    Sara

not to mention one day soon the new students will stop coming and that is the end of everything

  6. Shad

September was my first month as a challenge student and I can honestly say I failed in what I needed to do that month. After hearing how much students like Dux and Wolf study it opened my eyes into how much effort I really need to put in if I want to become a very successful trader.

I will be putting in a minimum of 6 hours a day from now on to reach my goals. Thanks Tim for the encouragement and your constant motivation to make us work harder.

  7. OceanRider

I was up studying at 4am yesterday, studied for eight hours. Today, I studied 5am till 1130am, two hours was doing Fibonacci measures on one stock alone. I will get there no doubt about it. I am tired but I grind on. Today, I looked at every stock that was up more than 3% yesterday and have eight on my watchlist for tomorrow.

When I get up in the morning around 5am I will listen to a video lesson while getting ready and on the way on my drive to work (one hour in the car). From work, I will trade one stock from my phone like I did LBIX Wednesday.

I was thinking about charts all day long while away from my computer.

It is an addiction at some point. I am close to leaving my job after 18 years of IT work. Can’t wait for the future. Going to make this happen.

  8. Alex Kennedy

When I first found Tim back in mid January 2017 (by total fluke), I was a complete noob with literally zero knowledge about stocks or the stock market in general. Basically if it had to do with money, I wasn’t interested. But Tim Sykes changed that for me, he showed me what was possible. I was hooked, I then studied every single available minute of every day. I logged 7 hours a day on the days I worked my full time job, on my days off 16 hours. I watched over 920 hours of Tim’s videos in 3.5 months (that’s nearly twice the number of hours I put in at my full time job during that period). I’ve taken the summer off but it’s time to get back to business! I’m going to put in at least 5 hours a day. Thank You Tim for being the relentless workaholic mentor/teacher that you are. And a big thanks to your entire team for all the work they put in behind the scenes!!

  9. Rob

I live in Japan and I’m in the military so the schedule is completely upside down compared to the typical student in the US. I work 7:30 am —4:30 pm and during my down time, I’m studying. I sleep from 17:00 -22:00 and wake up for webinars and market hours. I’ve been a student for 1 week and my main goal this week is to adjust my sleeping patterns so I can be up from 10 pm – 5 pm market and webinar hours for me to study freely. Perfect distraction free hours but I’ve failed at staying awake the first few days. It will get better. Once I’ve adjusted my sleeping patterns, I’m going balls to the wall. 7 hours in the morning and 7-8 hours throughout the day during my down time at work. Goal is 14 hours on the weekdays and 16-17 on the weekends.

  10. Fred Becker

I so totally agree with your one statement, “If you study, this will last your entire life.” Anyone who wants to get really good at this or anything has to continue reading, studying, practicing, trading for the rest of your life. No one ever knows it all and everything changes in this world each week, month and year. Thank you for all your continuous effort in training.

  11. Barbara Ann

I enjoy studying “Trader Checklist, ” and watching videos multiple times. I will never mind studying. This is going to be EPIC!!!

  12. Barbara Ann

I enjoy studying “Trader Checklist, ” watching the Russian conference; where I listened to key words, and watching interviews with Roland, Dux, and the Q & A with Gritani multiple times. I will never mind studying. I’ve been taking singles, but, I enjoy waking up in the morning and I look forward to 9:30 when the stock market opens. This is going to be EPIC!!!

  13. Lynlee Tabia

My target is to study at least 8 hours a day. I have a part time day job, and looking for an evening job so I could study more in the morning and be present during the trading hours.
I am jumping from one video to another or from one webinar to another. Now im in the Traderschecklist part 4. But every video has a lesson to learn.
Wish I can spend more time studying but I cant afford to quit my part time job right now, it’s my bread and butter apparently. Looking forward to quit and be a full time trader.
Thanks for the continuous motivation Tim, I need it.

To acquire knowledge, one must study; but to acquire wisdom, one must observe. I have always been a student who is extremely productive at unimportant things. Timothy Sykes made me understand two important things in achieving my financial break through and they as follows:

    1. That if it is important to me, I will find a way. If not I will find an excuse.

    2. That if I really want financial success in life then I should be able to push my myself because, no one else is going to do it for me.

Its true that the best things in life do not come easy it is tough but if you want to get somewhere, you have to put the work in. Thanks Timothy, for making me realize that the secret to getting ahead is getting started. I honestly appreciate all your efforts in making people like myself to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

  16. Shaaz

I study about 2 to 3 hours a day,u really am busy with all my school stuff yet i take time to stydy tgus out,cuz i believe i can become a millionaire one day and this is wat i want to do

  17. Irteza

    Hi Tim
I have planned the certain and uncertain, once I found a teacher just like you, who taught me to plan the uncertain and I never failed, and this time you are going to have your next student of who you would talk to, I am looking forward to surf 8-10 hours. Your articles and motivation is really something that brings a zombie back to life, I have been watching and reading you on youtube and your blogs, your students references and your student since 2 months. In the start, it was hard to trust as it is hard, you know it, but I have it now built… Thank you for the effort you made for others, you are one in the history and you are going to be the one, who really changed…

  18. Max

I’m gonna be the first to say I make no promises about how much I’m going to study, or how quickly I’m going to move forward. Instead what I’m going to say is all the misery in my life came from making big promises and wanting desperately not just for others to believe the lie, but to believe the lie myself.

Nose to the grindstone studying does not gaurantee that the brain cells will make the connections they need to make. That doesn’t change the reality that some time and effort is required, but everyone loves to declare their undying commitment. Let’s see how many of these people are still making the same promises years, decades down the line, if they even bother to keep doing that.

If these skills and markets have that much long term value (and I see no reason to believe they don’t), then ultimately, so long as the person isn’t hesitating or dilly-dallying for bullshit reasons, it doesn’t matter if they take 4 months to get the ball rolling or 4 years. Or maybe everything will go south in a few years and they missed a few years of opportunity to make a million or two before everything went bust. But I don’t like dealing in what-ifs and I don’t think anyone here who trades likes dealing in them either, from a trading perspective. Doesn’t help much from a life perspective either.

You yourself said you should make trading work for you and your schedule, Tim. I agree, and I think everyone can learn at their own pace and timeline, even if it means not going from 0 to millionaire status within just a couple years. Some of us may be more naturally inclined to completely go nuts with it from time to time and enjoy the resulting quick spikes of learning and progression, others may prefer taking more time to let everything digest and chew smaller mouthfuls before moving on.

I know I sound like a cunt but I gaurantee what I’m saying is more truthful than 90% of this faith militant oath pledging. We don’t need more of that. We need more sincerity and realness. If it’s gonna happen it’s gonna happen, if someone’s gonna do it they’ll do it. Who knows, maybe some day I’ll be a millionaire trader and people will actually start to value my weird opinions for no other reason than I have what they want 😉

hi tim and a big thanks for that post from germany.
I´m working in shifts which is hard sometimes, but i even try to study at work with my phone, espacially at my night shifts when i´m all by myself. Knowing that knowledge is our biggest wealth in life which leads to a better life, if we take actioni ,i try to study at least 6-8 hours everyday.

thanks tim, looking forward to become better and become one of millionaire students

  20. call

I have days of 12 hours, days of 4 hours and days of 1 hour. Roland, Deux Gritt, lucky 21, and YOU give priceless lessons. is not a sprint, is not even a marathon, is Iron-man.. .

  21. Amar

I’ve started studying 4 months ago and took no days off. I study about 3-5 hours during school days and 10-16 hours during vacation. I study every free minute I get, during classes, in breaks, during dinner and even on the toilet. Trading is my dream job and I will do everything to achieve it. Due to my lack of capital and being 19 I can`t open brokerage accounts at my preferred brokers so I started to trade cryptocurrencies.
Thank you so much for what you are doing !!
I have a question though, I´ve seen my efficiency going down when not taking any breaks, yesterday I took one for the first time (and it felt awful not doing anything but gave me more energy again), so my question is, should I take breaks every now and then and if yes is there a rule of thumb for how long and often it should be? Or should I rather try to balance studying and learning in a way that is more alternating?(Because right now I am studying nearly all the time and trading about once per week only if there is really a truly perfect setup)

  22. Trelessius

I work a full time job trying to get the money to become a full time trader and student. I sit at a desk all day so I spend most of my time reading your tweets and studying. I’ll have to say I study about 5 hours out the day and to hear your most successful student’s study at least 6-17 hours a day. I have to do better.

  23. Nhya

I have everything set up. I’m fully dedicated to my trading career. I “left” my job for a weekend one, so I can study and watch the markets during the week. I’m so exited and commited to it, it is exactly what I was looking for. No profitable yet, but soon enough 🙂

  24. Kenny Bailey

As I struggle with working overseas, 6-8 hours per day is how I learn, either through the DVDs, reading psychology books, and listening to you, Tim G, Dux, Roland, and other traders, I’m becoming more confident and more familiar with the stock patterns. Steady grind for me. Thanks Tim !! #NoDaysOff

  25. Faith Johnson

It’s been 3 weeks since been accepted into the Challenge and all I have been doing is study, study, study, I’m going through all the study materials I have been given. My favorite so FAR IS THE TIM RAW, And THE PENNYSTOCKING FRAMEWORK. TIMFUNDAMENTALS OART DEUX , LEARN LEVEL 2 AND TIM TACTICS. And the rest. My plan is to study all of the materials before I start any Trading,
I even bought a portable DVD player so I could play the DVD if Im in a place there is no internet. at the moment I going through P S FRAMEWORK for the 2nd time. I remember when my kids were young, they use to ask Why Why Why but why mum? And only when I gave the answer that they can understand, they would leave me alone, so im studying first to know the WHY WHY WHY SO I CAN GET THE UNDERSTANDING WHY the WHEN the IF the WHAT the YES the NO so when I do start trading I KNOW WHY I SHOULD DO OR NOT DO.
BASICALLY IF I CAN LEARN FROM TIMOTHY SYKES AND THE ONES BEFORE ME MISTAKES I WILL HAVE A BIT OF CHANCE OF MAKING SOME MONEY. I’m planning by the med November 2017 I will be trading Live. But the mean time Im following all your live trading and learning heaps from it too.
So Thanks TIMOTHY SYKES, I dont take this lightly. It cost alot to be one of your Challenge student and I don’t just mean money. And i need to put my best foot foward in this otherwise Im wasting your time and my life.
    AND I’M LOVING IT.
As the word said ” in all your getting, get UNDERSTANDING ”
    STAY BLESSED BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE.

The first 6 months started paper trading study roughly 2-3 hours a day or sometime more. Lately, I switch to trading with real money 4-5 hours per day and weekends 8-10 for last 8 months. I still have a ways to go! Funny, I started to like trading and studying. It keeps out trouble and I got rid of my loser friends.

    Hi Tim,
I am in the Millionaire Masters Program. At current I study 4 hrs per day on weekdays and 10-12 hrs per day on Saturday & Sunday. My plan is to increase my weekday study to 6-8 hrs perday and begin Paper Trading on Shorting to better prepare me with that “back hand”.

  28. Anthony Tullo

My name is Anthony Tullo and l won a canadian gold medal in brazilian jiu-jitsu years back. Since then l was honored top 8 rising star in Ontario Canada CMAO in country music. I produced a film in 2012 called A Secret Cross that is available in many social media platforms and won 4 awards and picked up a distribution deal in Los Angeles. I am mentioning all this to say, first l was not and am not rich by any means. What made me accomplish these things was the desire, the will, the time and work effort, over others that are not willing to do so. There is no secret to Tim’s success, the guy is simply an obsessed work horse who just won’t stop! This is what gets you what you want in life. Its the ability to work even harder when things seem impossible and others choose to slow down or quit. Oh yes how many hours to do l study Tims DVD’s, to many to count! I have not made a single trade, except for paper trading where l am up over $2000. I will make that first real trade when l am ready. I am not a patient person at all, but you damn well need it in this life. Play hard but mostly play smart. Its not secret why Tim is where he is, its called the ability to work harder, study harder, commit further then others are willing to do. Every single one of us have this in us, just tap into it and your world can change forever. This is the secret to success!!

Tim, we know with your dedication to both teaching students to be self sufficient as well as your commitment to your charities have taken up a lot of your time. We were wondering if you still plan on posting on your Youtube channel or here at your post 1-2 of Steven Du webinar that he has given as you have promised some months ago when you had all of us give a high five to him when he passed the million dollar mark. Is it possible to post it before the end of 2017 given your busy schedule. Thanks again for all that you do Tim.

Hello Mr. Tim, thanks for sharing! I just signed up for your challenge about a week ago. Working full time at this time but look forward to putting 30 mins to an hour a day studying. I’ll be a part time student. This is definitely going to be hard but worth it in the end. I’m doing this now for me and my family. No turning back!

I am not a Challenge Student, but a student none the less. I found Tim’s program back in April 2017 after a grueling 2 weeks of non-stop BS from a lot of other wannabe “Teachers”. I almost quit looking for someone to teach me about Penny Stocks when I found Tim’s FREE book “An American Hedge Fund”. It was love at first reading. I have been studying everything I could get my hands on, the free videos he puts out, EVERYTHING, and I have been studying and paper trading anywhere from 7 to 11 hours a day since April 2017. I just subscribed to Penny Stocking Silver & StocksToTrade on October 6, 2017. When I got my hands on his Video Library I was like a New Born Sponge just soaking in every little detail. Some may say that’s obsessive, but when I become his FIRST FEMALE MILLIONAIRE….I will take the naysayers out to dinner!! Anyhow a BIG Thank You to Tim Sykes, PennyStockingSilver, TimAlerts, STT & Tim Bohen for very valuable lessons on working with STT. STT Platform is the SHIZNIT!!

  32. John Cardona

I’m a plumber/heating technician which requires me to be on call 24/7, but I will study at least 2 hrs per day. Thank you Tim for passing on all of your knowledge!

I personally say it’s up to the person how determined they are to be successful in whatever they set their mind to. If they truly desire to prosper, whether it’s in education, business, affiliate marketing, blogging, or whatever the case may be, they’ll study to their heart;s content and make time when they don’t feel like doing so.
