The Answer To The Most FAQ I Get: Where Do I Find Stocks To Trade?

Posted by Timothy Sykes on Mon 28th of Jul, 2008 08:10:36 PM

I get emailed this question at least a dozen times/day and thanks to the combo power punch of my laptop crashing and an amazing new girl in my life, I’m about 3 weeks behind now on answering emails (not even gonna apologize anymore, that’s what you get for good info for free—peeps who’ve bought something from the TIMstore obviously get infinitely faster response time), lemme just answer it here for everyone…again. After all, I wrote a blog post nearly 9 months ago, HERE it is.

So, stop asking. That’s how I get all my trading ideas and the results you see every day in my TIMalerts morning watchlist (emailed and posted on subscribers-only website at 8am) so everyone is prepared to trade those stocks that day. Free blog readers again miss out as they’re unprepared a the market open…

Once you know what variables to look for (which are all detailed in my DVD PennyStocking), it’s rather easy, it just takes time. TIMalerts simply saves you the nightly hassle, as my nightly research takes anywhere from 30 minutes to 5 hours, depending how many plays there are and the idealiness of those plays.

Here, I’ll make it even easier by linking directly to the BASICS CATEGORY where you’ll find all the important basic blog posts I’ve done. Time to start readin’ you lazy bastards!

    Yng aka Steve,
My penny filter is nothing more than a combination of filters/concepts from Muddy/13th. It is white candle piercing UBB + RSI(2) > 90 + vol increase 500%. This filter doesn't produce many results; in fact it takes a couple of weeks before you get a chart that looks really good (steady vol increases over 3 days, good ave daily vol etc). But when the right one comes along it is usually a no brainer. The last one was FRTL and the next day it blew up to a double or a triple. VCSY was that same kind of chart, it went from .5 at open to .9 before it went back down so you could play it long or short, or both

You can't make a living by trading the results from this filter, but every once in a while you will get a great one from here that you can play up and down, today up was almost a double and down, who knows how far it can fall...
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
johnnyvento, earlier this month you told me about a stockfetcher filter you had to find ripe penny stocks like FRTL. How has that filter worked for you? Did you use that to find VSCY? If so, could you post it?

VSCY came up on my filters, but I was afraid to play it at the time...sometimes I'm scared to play these small pennies on the 1st move as they can sometimes sell off quickly the next day. Now I'm wishing I would've played it!

There's rumors going around on IHUB that Microsoft is settling with VCSY over some type of infringement.

  • LABAS could just keep going like MXFD who knows
  • used to add charts to every post, just could never keep up now...TIMalert members know exactly when i enter/exit a trade so they can see the chart realtime
  • johnnyvento
and Tim give us the specifics on the MacBook Pro you got. I just want to know if I was exactly accurate, or just amazingly accurate.
  • johnnyvento
haha did you play VCSY long first 13th? We were both right!

Tim put the hottie down and make another trade!
  • Yo Tim, LBAS looks like a good potential short candidate. It's one of those manipulated stocks where it has an up day almost everyday for months, but we all know that when those come down, they come down fast and hard. Ugly looking candle today.
  • gboz
hey Yngvai, I've had a stockfetcher account for a while now. What filters do you use?
  • younggunz
After checking your link and looking through your charts page, http://www.timothysykes.com/charts/.

I have a question about the charts. Are these patterns that you see to look into more for the next day or are these the full patterns after they've been played out?

One thing that would be helpful is to show the charts that you've weeded out as your watch worthy patterns before you've actually played them. I think it is rather easy to see why you played the charts that you've shown after the fact but I think the actual pattern you're trying to teach people to look for is going to be a chart all the way up to the point that you'd buy or short into. Then show the chart progress to where you got back out.
  • agathos23
    Tim,

Maybe you should consolidate all those questions that you've answered previously into a FAQ page and if anybody asks again, just refer them to the FAQ. :)

Newbie question: When filing federal tax return, how do you handle all these transactions? I use turbo tax, and it asks if any stock transactions took place for the year, and if so, it wants info on each transaction. You do hundreds, probably thousands transactions by year end. Sometimes you may buy x number of shares one day, but sell them over 2 or 3 transactions. What am I missing that I think that this is a nightmare to keep track of?

    Thanks,
    Jeff
  • younggunz
Yeah posting pics can be a double edged sword.

As for people always asking the same question it isn't the easiest to find specific things through all the blogs. I'm still trying to find the post where Tim posted some neat stock ticker and level 2 pie-chartish gadget.
  • Tony Ellis
Congrats on new girl! Post some pics.

What happened searching the site - are people just that lazy?
  • YngvaiMalmsteve
For anyone here that has a Stockfetcher subscription, I've got some filters that are useful in finding both good long and short opportunities.
