Did I Do That? Pump & Dump Exposes And Revolutionary Finance Websites

Posted by timothysykes on Tue 15th of Apr, 2008 02:41:01 PM

With my CNOA pump and dump expose last night and it’s 25% tankage today, I gotta wonder:

steve urkel1 Did I Do That? Pump & Dump Exposes And Revolutionary Finance Websites

Possibly, probly, who knows…too bad I wasn’t short the stock myself—gotta learn to short sell these suckers BEFORE I chop ‘em to pieces, a la business models of Citron Research and Mark Cuban’s ShareSleuth.com

Nahhhhhhhh a.) it didn’t fit my pattern and b.) it’s more fun to write brutally truthful articles about stocks in which you have no positions, you do it just cuz it’s the right thing to do

I’ll tell you one thing I definitely did do right, that’s hiring and tirelessly working with Pallian to design the new site, which is looking redonkulous! I mean the guy is an Indian Picasso, he should be called Ghandcasso or Picandhi. To you lucky 50, advertisers and bloggers, the beta invites are being emailed out, so def. let me know what you think—what you like and don’t like, the site is for you—and for everyone else, you gotta wait til May 1st and settle for clicking the little thumbnail below:

  • pete
you say " i just shorted 2,000 KOG at $2.75, nice crack of the sideways price action, just gotta go negative and its a homerun

lame uber nube question but.... when you refer to shorting a stock that means you hope to see the stock dropp in price.
you always seem to say how you buy "short" and make money on the drops and not the ups, your style is about the dropps?
  • timsykes
who said anything about covering? its an oila nd gas play, who cares about intel/finance
  • Goose
At what price are you covering ?

Intel good news made a bump in after hours for financial stocks. Do you think it will hold?
  • timsykes
its up on a few hundred shares traded...i'll be travelling all morning, sux, i'm gonna miss it
  • Goose
KOG after-hours up ... What do you think it will happen tomorrow? I shorted when you did.
  • timsykes
cramer's fine, he just picks too many stocks, ound to have a winning percentage of 50% or so

beta users know the new site has the option to close any section u don't wanna see
  • Zach
I'm with Jorge Morales on this - the new site, while crazy and entertaining, is going to be a departure from the simple, professional Tim I knew . . . I think you should at least have an option to turn off (or down) the level of crazitude inherent in the new page.

Like, look at Yahoo.com and google.com (not to be crass and obvious with my analogies), and seriously, think about encouraging readership rather than stimulating eyes. You might get more pagehits (something I even advocated for you aspiring to in a previous comment) but I think you might lose some of the regulars in the process.

I'll still show up, of course. But I do hope the entire site doesn't end up covered in neon/fucking moving ads/embedded videos. That'd destroy your look, austere aesthetic, etc. And it'd certainly drive people away in droves as the site aggressively tries to show you its content.

On the other hand, I love the idea of segments of the page for different things - the compartmentalization is great. Keep it up!
  • Joseph
Tim, I'm watching Cramer right now, and it seems like you're doing pretty much what he's been doing, but with pennystocks. Why do you rip on him? I kinda like the guy, you're sure you're not following in his footsteps. I know you rip on him sometimes, but I like his style and yours too.

Anyways that preview of the website is mad torture, I can't wait. It looks great, man. Oh yeah, I see you in young money again. ha you shouldn't keep saying "you're not smart", you're damn smart and highly creative too man. keep up the good work.

Who's long SOL? I'm kicking myself for selling for a small gain. New site looks good.
  • timsykes
feed took out the stop losses, consolidated nicely, coulda woulda shoulda been a nice 50 cent gain from 15.40 to 14.80-90ish...now who knows

dxcm not really up enough and its got a solid bottom, could be like these solars and bounce, not for me
  • Raman
DXCM? Trended up nicely for about week and a half, but seems to have run out of steam as its down the past two days. what do u think?
  • bryan
wow didnt even notice thanks....that right there could def manipulate some traders actions right? also, was FEED a fakedown or fake berakdown today? is it still a short possibility? enjoy your bday tonight
  • timsykes
smi unchanged afterhours, ithat trade is a misprint, focus on bid/ask
  • bryan
Damn Timmay SMI is cracking down %18 after hours... I guess your right about the risk of REAL news..it just appeared to be the regular supernova pattern im starting to disect the variables on risk with these chart patterns question by question..thanks
  • Nicklas
New site looks great! Really looking forward to the 101-section and Tim-TV. There's so much to learn in this game for a newcomer, and you're the ultimate source! :)
  • ViciousChicken
Tim I'm in with you on KOG. I shorted at $2.80 not long after it started it's sideways run. I'm only in for about 1/8th the position you're in for though (all my funds are tied up in long longs. I've gotta create a second account...).

While I agree that KOG is being heavily affected by the commodity side of the market, there is no way that accounts for the amount they're currenly up. Lets hope for a big sell of in the AM.
  • timsykes
i like cutting my losses immediately, but since KOG is such a strong longterm dw0ontrend, i'm gonna give this a little leeway...obviously anything over $3 and u just gotta get out, but ideally it wont even be able to break $2.80--now with the strong close, $2.80 might not be so meaningful and u gotta step back and look at it from a daily perspective saying it was up today but only a few cents, if it cant get some big gains tomorrow, the momentum is lost

also volume is scorching, not sure how long it can keep that up, usually signs of a top...but then again its a commodities play so the pattern might be irrelevant. just gotta let it play out, nowhere near as certain as PSTI
  • bryan
One last question for you TIM i entered KOG at 2.74 where would you teach someone to cut their losses if this thing runs up in after hours or in the morning..kind of give us a lil lesson on what to expect tommorrow..keep up the good work and have a vodka and tonic on me from my psti blessing
  • Jorge Morales
    Hello Tim,

I follow your blog for inspiration and motivation. I admire the passion you have for what you do.

Regarding your new website, I think you are selling out on what I really like about this one. The new site seems to have no immidiate focus on its theme with so many different sections and no color harmony. Reminds me of the Pop-nography magazines my girlfriend likes to read.

Think about Robert Kiyosaki's image brand: fonts, icons and colors. That is what I thought you were trying to do with this website; to create cohesiveness. Your opinions, picks, rants, advice-your brand, it all came together here.

I am just commenting from a designers perspective since I know you are the kind of person that can appreciate value.

I look forward to bring you some questions to get your input.

    I wish you continued success.

    Jorge Morales

i liked that big volume selloff, but i dont like this light volume bounce...especially when i'm travelling all tomorrow morning ah well, lets see how this plays out over 1-2 days
  • Tim, I know you were out of it a while back, but SYNM just keeps dropping!
  • be-the-ball
    shorting KOG with you tim!
  • timsykes
what i said about KOG remains, but i cant ignore the afternoon breakdown pattern, its too perfect---without pattern perfection, i'm not interested
  • bryan
LOL i asked you bout kog earlier and you told me it was commodity deal and u didnt seem interested..

Everyone KOG is bout to go into neg territory might wanna keep an eye out over double avg volume
  • Andrew
KOG's trading reminds me a lot like cot. looks like heavy support by people who shouldn't be in charge of that much money. Might get a nice sell off in the morning though?
  • FCTR holy smokes
  • B
Tim- the new site looks great. There's so much going on, but it is organized well... not to mention the better positioning of ad space. I think it'll be a step in the right direction to help people navigate your site better...

SMI is "speculation" of an investor... might be worth at least watching...
  • timsykes
no thats news-related, i just shorted 2,000 KOG at $2.75, nice crack of the sideways price action, just gotta go negative and its a homerun
  • bryan
    Tim,,,
SMI up over %30 percent over a hold opinion and possible margin outlook...is this something that we should keep an eye on?
