Boo Hoo, It’s Been 6 Days Since I Traded, Here’s My Response:

Posted by timothysykes on Thu 7th of Aug, 2008 12:18:23 PM

So it’s been exactly SIX trading days since I’ve traded any stock and you gotta multiply that number by about 100 to get to the number of emails and comments on this blog I’ve received from people questioning why I’ve stopped trading.

Guys, my ideal plays do not come about every day. I rely on spammers to do their usual pumping, suckers to be their usual gullible selves and the whole mechanism behind this gutter of the stock market–that being internet message boards, email, fax and hard copy spam, chat rooms, deceptive press releases, soulless stock promoters–all to play their part in this grand musical I call Pennystocking. Only then do I strike as my odds are not 40/60 or 50/50 (like most traders), but 80/20 and sometimes even 90/10.

If those of you commenting weren’t so lazy, you’d have read my 800+ blog posts by now and you’d understand this concept better. If those of you commenting weren’t so cheap, you’d have sucked up the $300 eduction fee and bought my PennyStocking DVD by now and you’d understand this concept better.

But the market has spoiled you the past few months. I have spoiled you.

Posted on the front page of the TIMalerts-subscribers-only-website, you’ve seen my rather impressive TIMalert track record below–average gain per alert of 20% within 1-2 days and all the testimonials (which make ALL other investment newsletters pale in comparison) and you think you’ve been given the secret to making money in the stock market for $30/month (nope, just a way to make high probable trades when the right variables align):

Posted HERE, you’ve read that those same alerts gained an average of 35% if you just held onto them a few days longer…

Posted HERE, you’ve seen how much $ you can save if you purchase a TIMalerts annual subscription together with the PennyStocking DVD package (which comes with autographed An American Hedge Fund Book & 220-page instruction manual) (you can buy that combo deal HERE)

Posted HERE, you’ve seen by how much my returns are dominating everyone else on Covestor (getting dominated by a part-time trader with horrific timing who spends most of his time blogging/emailing?!?!?!….this joke of an industry is pathetic! Is there no one else? Is there no one else?)

Well, I’d love to keep spoiling you, but the fact is there aren’t any truly great plays right now. It happens every now and then. You have to deal with it. I’m not gonna trade/alert just for the sake of trading/alerting–that’s what 90% of this joke of an industry does and that’s why all of those people lose…regularly.

You cannot be angry nor you should not whine to me. I am not a spammer nor a promoter, I don’t control these pump and dumps, I have to wait for them to present themselves and only then will I strike.

So, go complain to your local spammer or promoters–especially those of you in Vancouver–and tell him how important this issue is to you. Make him understand that he needs to do his job better.

  1. Dude, you’re a smart trader. It’s a unique strategy indeed to have 90/10 success rate. And you have the patience to wait until all the variables align. Good maxim for traders: know when to hold and know when to fold. Trading is a whole lot like playing poker.

  2. Tim, serious question: do you think (be honest) that your recent winning streak has anything to do with your pumping these stocks. Even though it’s not your intent, you are, in effect, pumping them.

  3. yup, but maggots like Cramer make these people think the more u play, the better your chances of winning, this isn’t the fucken lotto!

  4. who knows, i shorted USS, covered for a q uick gain, stock dropped 47% in 2 days…i just call the patterns like i see em and try to profit from the price action

  5. Yeah, and the big problem with Cramer and the like is that they never talk about risk management or risk/reward ratios. And obviously, if you have a trading strategy with a sucess rate that is 50/50, the risk/reward ratio is the most critical part of the strategy. These guys like Cramer tell you to buy a stock but I don’t think they mention the stop/target prices, which is the first thing you should be doing when you trade their stocks.

  6. I visit this site more than any other finance site. I can’t even remember the last time I read an article on Yahoo! Finance.

  7. I was thinking the same thing Alex. If I send out an e-mail to 300+ people to short a stock that trades 500,000 shares, and everyone decides to short at the same time–just after I send my e-mail and enter my position, of course the stock will go lower! That’s really a no brainer.

  8. But no doubt, the pattern would probably act the same way regardless of the TIMAlert or not.

  9. damn…people are always just so lazy….do your own homework and stop bothering Tim….people have paid for their Timalerts already with all of those picks.

  10. I was going to open a Scottrade account just to get to use the Mike 13th highs of the day list, but it looks as they don’t open account for Canadians (require a US Address). Does anybody knows of another broker that creates a rolling list with the making the high of the day?

  11. I really need to open up an account with a broker who loans shares on these penny stocks. Right now I can only play the long side, which is not nearly as high probability of success. These pumped stocks rarely have nice clean breakouts - it’s usually just gradual creeping-up gains (and on any given day, who knows whether it will continue to go up the next day or take the big plummet).

So is everyone now fighting for the shares from TOS? Or maybe they know about Tim’s blog and borrow more shares of Tim’s stocks in play to meet the demand? Does anyone use Zecco? I’ve thought about getting an account with them. No commission would be nice for penny stocks.

  12. getshorty - that sounds pretty cool…I’d like to see what the streaming HOD list looks like…maybe you can subcribe to it even if you don’t have scottrade acct

  13. Of course, you can always just create a big watchlist of stocks in play, then look for the ones going from red to green…that’s what I tend to do

  14. VNDA is creeping up today…one of these days I think it’ll pop to 1.50

Right on, Tim. People with small accounts need to learn to trade LESS. My best month was last month, and I nearly cut my monthly trades in half that month. I haven’t made a single trade since Monday.

Marcel Link talks about trading less in his “High Probability” book.

Small account holders: It pays to be picky!

  16. Getshorty, I have scottrade but not aware of what you are talking about.

  17. Quality not quantity

  18. I don’t trade every day either. I don’t even look at my portfolio for days sometimes depending on what i’m invested in. There’s a reason you set targets so you don’t have to watch things like a hawk.

  19. 19

Right on Tim! I agree with you. I joined Timalerts and ordered the DVD just as you traded USS. Since then my TOS account was opened and now fully funded. I could’ve traded the last 5 days or so but I never wondered why you didn’t send out any picks nor why you didn’t trade. Like you I’d rather go slow and have a greater percentage of success.

  20. Tim will you be trading/blogging from Japan as well? Sorry if this has been asked before.

  21. Overtrading in the begining traders biggest mistake.I am a subscriber and I haven’t used any of your ideas yet.I’m not in a big hurry.
I have been using your trading model so to speak,to short lousy pos stocks and I’m making money.
As the market sinks lower there will be a bigger chance of pump and dumb supernovas out there, then I’ll clean up.
There is no rush, unless you like to lose money.

  22. of course, i’ll never stop trading, japan should be interesting, i’ve done it once before, i’ll do it again!

  23. THANK YOU FOR NOT TRADING TIM. I LOST $1K THIS PAST WEEK TRYING TO PLAY FINANCIALS INSTEAD OF WAITING FOR PERFECT SETUPS LIKE YOU ALWAYS TELL US IN YOUR ALERTS. TRIED TO BE FANCY. YOU ARE RIGHT. YOUR STRATEGY IS RIGHT. KEEP STICKING TO YOUR GUNS BY NOT TRADING JUST TO TRADE. THAT’S WHEN YOU LOSE.

    Still short on REV

  26. had 1200 shares shorted at 3.81 and 500 at 3.68 covered 1100 around 3.38 on average. still short 600 shares. would look at the close closely.

  27. Wall Street tumbled Thursday after weekly unemployment claims jumped to a six-year high and Wal-Mart Stores Inc. and other retailers reported disappointing sales, touching off renewed fears that a pullback in consumer spending will damage the economy.

New York made Citigroup eat some of their own shit today to the tune of 7 billion.

AIG reports a loss of 5.5 billion for the quarter.

Worst economic period since the great depression and the markets were up 1000 points in July. BWHAHAHA. Only temporary. Can’t keep an engine running on invisible fuel. Spikes in the market have been artificially propped with fake bailouts and fantastic speeches that bottom is in.

Corruption has killed the great U.S.A. I have a red, white, and blue flag tattooed on my balls and am sad to see this desruction of our great nation take place by greedy sons of bitches.

  28. Tommy, are you applying for a commentator position at CNBC and are makingthis posts to refer on your resume? Other wise I don’t get what your postings had to do with penny stocking day trading. (which is the purpose of this blog)

  29. And, haven’t you noticed that no one cares about what you say on here anyway?

  30. Will sleep this night being 600 shares short of MNKD and 500 shares long of NOBL at an avg of 5.30 (NOBL was brought to you by ….. Tim Alerts).

  31. Power Etrade Pro has a hi/lo streamer

  32. Yeah, every time I see “TommyTim” my brain seems to interpret it as “scroll down until post is done”.

  33. Wow when the market is up Chicken Little…I mean TommyTim is a no show with his commentator coverage of the market. All of a sudden when the market is down again he’s back.

TommyTim you may as well just keep your posts to the point and just say “THE SKY IS FALLING! THE SKY IS FALLING!” It would save so much time for everyone.

  34. I don’t get the part about Vancouver, can anyone explain this to me?
    I live there.

  35. Is he trying to say there’s a lot of spammers in Van? Vancouver Canada, or in Oregon?

  36. TIM, on the days you don’t trade penny stocks, how come you don’t dabble in some index futures? TIM, with 24k you could trade 6 contracts of mini dow (YM) and it’s not too hard to catch 50-100 pts per day, which comes to 1500-3000$ gain.
6-12% per day sounds good to me, plus you already know how to trade so you could make another million pretty easily! Think about it!

    Keep up the trading bro.
