A Rare Timothy Sykes Public Appearance: Midtown Manhattan Microsoft Office, Tonight At 6:30PM

Posted by timothysykes on Wed 23rd of Jul, 2008 11:46:49 AM

Yes, I know, I need to get out more, I’m starting to turn into an Arrington & nobody really seems to like him (not that I really give a sh%^ what people thin k about me). Anyway, tonight’s NYC Investor’s Business Daily Meetup is gonna make me do just that. You can see all the details HERE and if you wanna go, you gotta RSVP through that website cuz it’s gonna be sold out. This is the agenda:

NEW YORK IBD MEETUP GROUP
Wednesday, July 23, 2007

Meeting Location: Microsoft Office
1290 Avenue of the Americas (bet. 51st- 52nd Streets) - 6th Floor

6:30 PM: Gathering 1/2 hour for socializing, chatting, etc.

6:55 PM: Welcome & Announcements Ilona Ross

7:00- 9:00 Gil Morales

If you’re in the area, I suggest you attend the event with me, not because you’ll meet a lot of great people and investors with superior market knowledge–screw that, most people there are gonna be just as poor, confused and distrusting as you–but because the speaker, Gil Morales, from 7-9pm is impressive. He worked with/studied under/wrote a book on Short Selling (see the decent book HERE) with the man William ‘CANSLIM’ O’Neill and check out his official bio:

Mr. Morales began his investment career in 1991 as a stockbroker in the Beverly Hills branch of Merrill Lynch. In 1994 he joined PaineWebber, Inc. where he quickly achieved Chairman’s Club status as a top producer. In 1997, William O’Neil personally recruited Mr. Morales to join William O’Neil + Company, Inc. where he spent the next eight years as a Vice-President, internal Portfolio Manager responsible for managing a portion of the firm’s proprietary assets, and Manager of the O’Neil Institutional Services group responsible for advising over 500 of the largest and most successful institutional investors in the world, including mutual fund, pension fund, and hedge fund clients. Mr. Morales also co-authored with William J. O’Neil a book on short-selling, “How to Make Money Selling Stocks Short,” published by John Wiley & Sons in 2004.

In the period from January 1, 1998 to December 31, 2005, Mr. Morales achieved in his personal account a total return of 10,904.25% as audited by Rothstein Kass & Company, a hedge fund auditing firm. Applying a standard hedge fund 2%/20% fee structure to this return would yield a pro forma return of 5,572.04%, net of fees. Mr. Morales received his B.A. in economics from Stanford University.

  4. WSCI breaking down perfectlyyyyyyyyyyy

    good job gil!

  5. With TOS or IB, can you employ computer-generated algorithms to jump from stock to stock?

  6. MBAUGH, Thanks.
It looks like CHCG is topping out right now. What are your thougts on this moving up?

  7. wow, it kills me thinking that I covered that wsci son of a b$$%% yesterday at 9.83 from shorting it at 9.66.

SHould have reshorted it today as soon as i broke down from 9.

Tim, about my $ profits on mkty. Realized profits from closed position: $320. Profits not booked yet waiting for further decline$ 325

    All together so far: $645

  8. MBAUGH, you wouldnt happen to live in SanDiego county would you? Im just thinking I know you.

  9. love that I took 15% profit on MKTY and 2 hours later its a 25%+ profit…story of my life….glad many TIMalert subscribers have more patience

  10. Check out RDN if it forms a double top at $2 could shoot down.

  11. Marc, I live in Louisville, Ky.

  12. Thats it for me.

Out of MKTY for a total profit of $720.

Not bad. My position is reshortable, so may look at doing so if it has a strong spike (doubt it) or it breaks 3.90ish support

  13. Timmay…I work @ 1290. can’t make it to event due to work event but when you getting here maybe i’ll catch up with you in lobby before you head up??

  14. I wished I lived in NY, I’ll have to leep on growing my account in order to eventually afford moving there (and be able to live from full time trading since I don’t feel like knocking doors there, where finance jobs are so overcrowded).

    Good luck

  15. Made $652 on MKTY after commissions. Sold my 700 shares at $4.15, a 0.96 or 18% profit. Perfect call Tim!

  16. Anyone have any thoughts on SIX?

    Get shorty,
First, congratualtions on making great profits from MTGY. Sorry, I couldn’t answer you any earlier, busy with work. But I see you got most of the answers from stock veterans like Tim and Mike_13th, and others here.
To answer your yesterday’s question, there was no news, it was not following sector trend, and stock was up over 60% in one day. Though I did not search every single website, but it was pumped at certain website, I heard from others. Tim and other master traders know this kind of stocks can’t hold fluff pumps and most of the time give back most, if not all. I held it o/n with guts that I was going to double my position if spiked (which it did and I added more at $5.30 this morning).
Tim said, low volume stocks can spike with little volume but they can also tank with little volume. In my opinion, it may close below $4 (mid or low $3). I covered half of my position at $4.15, holding half another o/n.
    Good luck with trading!

I missed the bus for WSCI. Do you guys still think that it is not too late for shorting it?

  19. 19

    tim
i had reserved 1000 shares of MKTY yesterday. I changed my order from day order to GTC order..
i shorted MKTY this morning after it came back down from 5.50…my order was to short at 4.95, but i only got filled for 400 shares and the price of the stock never touched 4.95 so the remaining 600 didnt fill.Anyways…my question is why the volume on MKTY comming down is not much?..are the market makers manipulating the market buy not letting short sellers fill out their orders compleatly or something ?!

  20. Thanks Millionaire.

But for now I will keep on waiting for the breakdown, I guess your strategy makes more sense if you have a bigger account, therefore it works better to start to accumulate shorts on the way up given that your account size is several times bigger than your bet and you can wind possible multiple day spikes (If mkty decided to follow supernova pattern for some emore days it could have gotten over $10)

While my account is still short, will keep on waiting for the breakdown, or worst case, slowdown.

    Thanks for the insight.

  21. Market Girl, your observation over the volume just made me realize that there have been a lot of people buying mkty over $4 and only a few have sold during this slide, to me this only means one thing. At some point under $4 an avalanche is going to take place, will re-short when it starts.

  22. 22

getshorty .. yep i think it is just a lack of buyers that is pushing the price down since this morning…i am sure this would go to 2 dollar if they let the shorts go through

marketGirl, are you with TOS? If so, you were able to keep your shares reserved overnight with a GTC order? I was under the impression that you couldn’t do that with TOS.

  24. 24

yep i am with TOS…i thought it might not work…it could be a bug in their system…hush….Tim plz delete my comment above…
