Why Getting Hacked, Like Losing Hundreds Of Thousands Of Dollars, Is A Good Thing

Tags: Analogies, Criminals, Manipulation, Scandals, TIM Lessons

Yes it’s true, I’ll explain. While I’m a cynical old (in terms of market experience) short seller whose seen frauds, hype and pumping galore and think 99% of Wall Street is full of truly soulless scumbags, I’m also a big believer in learning through mistakes. Just like that time when I lost a few hundred thousand dollars, our Sunday night hack attack by some shady Russian hacker probly hired by a stock promoter I’ve pissed off (I don’t know how considering I have nothing against stock promoters and if they thought about what I’m trying to accomplish, they’d see that making penny stocks more transparent and hence more actively traded will benefit us all) is definitely a set back—all FORUM posts, new subscribers, recent TIMbucks, basically anything that happened on this site from Friday-Sunday has been lost forever. Because we weren’t prepared—we only backed up every few days.

The reason why this is a good thing is not because I’m trying to surgarcoat something grotesque as if I ran DoublingStocks.com aka We-Are-Blatant-Manipulators-Who-Suck-At-Our-Jobs-So-Much-That-Our-Pumps-Aren’t-Even-Worth-Shorting-Into.com or headed the shady PR firm representing Converted Organics Inc (COIN)—don’t even get me started on how much this sucks/time it wastes—but because now we’ve been forced o upgrade how often we backup everything. More importantly, now we’ve been forced to upgrade our site security. Exactly how that big loss back in 2006-2007 made me wiser, more conservative and forced me to become an infinitely better teacher.

My team and I are truly sorry for making you re-post your stuff and re-subscribe, if you even want to, but nothing is infallible—no website, no stock, no guru, nothingggggg. And please have a bit of patience over the next few days as we catch up…

Perhaps an even better lesson is to stick to what works for you—since I knew I’d be filming ridiculously funny clips all day tomorrow our upcoming LiveStock episodes, for the first time….ever, I prepared draft posts to get ahead for once…now those are gone, my weekend wasted. Just like how my frail Jewish body resisted me trying to buff it up with a trainer or when mom stopped doing my laundry a few weeks ago and now the cleaners have lost my two nicest shirts…sometimes you don’t mess time-tested traditions.

I think Superman gave up on NTI today, no movement after losing $1.26 today. His China plastic clean up theory did not buzz this one. Probably will fall further down tomorrow, I will short it before close today, holding profits on oil players tonight.

Were any of the credit card numbers that people used to buy your dvd stolen? Most of the russian hackers are associated with organized crime. They run bot-nets, phishing scams, and identity theft rings.

I’m going to call my credit card company and let them know. Even if I am only liable for $50, it is still a pain.

    Oh, well - stuff happens…

Matt, this is just a blogging platform. I imagine that there has never been a credit card or even personal data that has touched this site.

When you click on the order link/button, you are taken directly to Paypal.

I think that your information is safe. But hey, never hurts to be safer ;)

lol, that is funny about the cleaners…i too share your idealogy…even bad things must be looked at in a positive light if one is to continue to progress in life…all dwelling on negative things does is attract more negativity to light…it is best to keep your eyes on the prize and soul on the goal, thereby, finding the positive in your unfortunate situations, because if you continue with that point of view, the negative situations will become more rare as you progress in this life…being jewish, you know a popular term for God is Yaweh, and that translates into I AM, which is an affirmative command as opposed to the antithesis, I AM NOT…a good explanation of this is when trying to quit smoking a good positive affirmation is I AM a non smoker; rather than I am not a smoker; it’s based upon concentrating on what you want, and not what you don’t want, and in this field my friend i believe you have the right state of mind…keep on pushin!

Anybody shorting some more NTI with me on its first down day?
or are you all afraid of clark kent?
He is just human people !!

Still trying to figure out how timmay found PCSV…must be thru some inputs of a screener or was previously on his list and just popped up again.

I’m short NTI. I was going to wait for the close but this thing was already showing weakness with the fading volume, significant psychological resistance at $15, and the fact it broke its ascending trendline. I was in at $15 and more shares at $14.70. I’m holding overnight into the close. Should be another down day tomorrow.

    June 2nd, 2008 at 4:05 pm

why in the world would u short ACOR at $28…strong stock with positive drug news, already consolidated and bounced…i hope u get squeezed cuz thats just an irresponsible short

    June 2nd, 2008 at 4:07 pm

Just in time TIM !! Just when i needed the backup !!

Shorted 200 nti at an average of 14.07.

Tim’s typical bookplay, throw some kryptonite to the punch.

Short 40 acor, kind of shy I know….. but is not a bookplay….

Got hurt today with cred and fpp…. should learn my lesson…..
But still happy, mostly because of my large can$ short position. : )

Hey, Fous, I tried to log onto your site an hour ago but it was making my computer act all weird, and my antivirus was alerting to a bunch of things. You up & running again or is it going to be more time?

Damn, I know Tim already said this, but ACOR short at $28 is really stupid. It closed with positive momentum. Anyone looking at level II on NTI? Say hi to my 1000 share short at 13.90! Come baby! I know there’s some po’ dunk hick out there on his pentium II just now reading superman’s picks and thinkin $13.90 is a great deal!

u guys are experiencing losses cuz u’re trading random penny stocks randomly..nothing worse than that and thats why people think this is gambling. i dont have all the answers, but i do have a set of time tested rules and lessons learned use ‘em for god’s sake!

Hi Sniper, we should form a club, the “get kicked in the balls when you enter a trade without a clear plan club”

I think we can both run for presidents.

I didn’t make a single trade today, just sat here with my head spinning and long positions hemorraging. My only plan now is to purchase cheap tequila, dump it out, and smack myself in the head with the empty bottle.

Wow what a day, first of all I am glad to see your site back up and running Tim.

Today was such a shitty day as It was more about sitting on the side lines than getting any perfect plays. Although I am long on my ROYL play and will look to see what happens at the open tomm.
