17 Hot Energy Stocks aka Soon To Be Great Short Selling Plays

Posted by timothysykes on Wed 21st of May, 2008 08:34:36 AM

PennyStocking DVD students understand worthy trading opportunities only come about every so often—all the normal daily stuff is just too random/unpredictable—so by focusing on these few truly predictable situations, your profitability increases exponentially. If you can keep a cool head when everyone else is going crazy around you, this game gets much easier…that’s right, you 90% of trader losers out there, now is the time to try to recoup your horrific losses! (I’m talking to you, you sad little ETers)

I’ve been posting about PDO, MXC and FPP the past few days—even taking quick losses totaling $400 shorting FPP and MXC too early (wisely as it turned out, as those losses would now be pushing $5,000!! Uhh yeah $5k in gains from the long side, if I had any talent whatsoever doing that, which I don’t)—but only after we’ve gotten 3 strong up days are they prime for potentially predictable reversals, the extent of which we’ll have to wait and see…by now you guys should know the signs fo what to look for.

Since we’ll surely be missing them when they’re gone soon, I gotta link to every other site that’s featuring them HERE, HERE and HERE.

Some of these energy plays are looking like good longs. Energy stocks might be today’s tech stocks of ‘99-2000.

  9. Hey guyswhats your advice with using stops, stop limits, trailing stops on trying to capture some of these early morning spikes when your long and it gaps up?

Yesterday I got stoped-out on MXC which severly limited my gains and even produced a loss onetime when my stop when off on a random gap dip which was quickly filled.

If im watching these like a hawk in the first hour of trading for a potential exit should I just execute using market fill orders and have no stop order so I dont get randomly taken out on some random price gap?

Im up 10% overnight on my FPP,PDO,MXC,ROYL long positions. So im just trying to get out with these gains.

    Radar ZAAP today

  11. 11

just sell some Wes, don’t be greedy

Hello all, my nickname has changed. Was JMoates77, now see above. Reserved 2000 ROYL and 3000 FPP for shorting today. With how high these suckers are going to open, we may see a complete breakdown. Tim, would you say a stock cracking is when it passes the threshold of where it opened or where it closed the night before? Using your logic, I would think its the latter. Just as Wes is pointing out, he feels okay about the gains he’s made, overnight so if it cracks the opening he may be less likely to sell immediately. The fear would set in once the thing actually goes red on the day which would be all the gains it made during the day and in pre-market. Your thoughts?

  13. 13

Okay, now my nickname has changed.

  14. Stops are for wimps!

  15. 15

    Ummm…Now? yay!

  16. WTF is going on w/ MXC and PDO how high are these going to run???????

  17. shorted 1000 FPP at 7.44….very undisciplined trade

  18. Timmay why Timmay why!!!!!! I wouldn’t short any of these with someone elses money!

  19. davey i sure hope you got out of mxc

  20. I knew that I should have bought some FPP yesterday before the close…oh well…

  21. ouch tim I see your already down about .6/share

  22. 22

Had to reduce my number of shares to 2800 on FPP because of buying power. Still haven’t executed yet. Got 2500 ROYL still reserved too.

  23. 23

It might end up workin out for ya tim!

  24. wow FPP turned right around at 8, Tim you get out around that 7.32 drop

  25. 25

Wow, in the last 10 minutes every one of them PDO, MXC, FPP and ROYL have had major drops. Is now the time?

  26. any thoughts on BCON guys???

  27. nah it was right to short FPP in the morning today, lots of sellers, easy short squeeze, i just didnt wait for absolute panic just above $8….poor timing as usual…i’m holding my 1,000 shares, i think i can cover under $7

  28. Damn its a good day :P Im completly sold out of all my longs by 10 am est. 30 mins into the market and i sold out for a 16.5% cumulative return. Damn its a good day.

LONG: (all positions were for roughly same $ amts).

FPP in at 5.8 out at 7.07, 21%
PDO in at 23.00 out at 26.61, 15%
ROYL in at 5.51 out at 6.45, 17%
MXC in at 41.48 out at 47.00, 13%
    ————————————
    TOTAL RETURN 16.5%

  29. 29

350z read the blog post above and quit whining about BCON, not worth your time!

  30. Wes why would you get out of PDO and MXC!!!!!

  31. Reserved a few of PEIX to short when it falls under ~5.0-5.1 again
@TIM: FPP @ 7.44? You taught us something different.. :-) I will wait for it to fall under ~5.8.

  32. Shorted CPSL @ 7.60

  33. 33

shorted FPP at 7.54, still waiting on ROYL

  34. holding my long fpp till is see it break down a little then I will hop on the short train

  35. Wes, congrats. Smart move.

  36. strange tug of war going on in the 7.40 range

  37. It wasnt my plan to try to time the top, I was happy with my overnight 15% return so I got out, I saw volume fade for a bit and therefore I took that signal to get out. I ignored volume yesterday and it cost me my 30% mxc profit, I didnt want to make the same mistake again.

Plus I had a target 15% return on all these plays, I saw 15% on paper, so I sold according to my plan. I dont regret it. If I had 25k+ in my acct Id be back in scalping here and there, but I dont so I have to take what I can get.

Still, 16.5% overnight aint bad. Basically I just added 1k to my signon bonus (my equity im trading with).

  38. 38

    Shorted ROYL at 6

  39. Hard to believe I’d say this, but for a stock that’s up 26% on the day FPP looks terrible. Granted I shorted WAY to early which loses me some credibility, but this is the most selling I’ve seen in the stock. And, this gap up just shows the real panic in buying, which is gonna subside soon enough. Looks like the newbies looking for a quick buck are all that’s left. I’m gonna short more later today if it continues to play out as it has.

  40. And glad to hear your in there Tim!

  41. all out of FPP don’t like the way its acting

  42. 42

I wouldn’t want to have a position in anything energy related with inventory data in 10 minutes. Seems like the market is waiting on it to react.

  43. 43

Hey tim, found another glitch in your site. When you change your nickname to a another name other than your username and choose for that to show up on these posts, the TimBucks aren’t being calculated. FYI. Here we go! Come on big drop on ROYL!!!

  44. nice job wes, WSSurvivor short ROYL at 6.03 , MXC 51.77

  45. Lets see if they sell the news

  46. Shorted FPP @ 7.45 on the downwedge. Shoulda waited for the 7.22 crack, but i gotta itchy trigger finger. Ack.

  47. Missed the initial drop on MMGW as it moved too fast. Got in short at $2.93 when it snapped back. Looking weak now. $2.50 may be hard to crack though.

  48. still should never have tried to pick the FPP top, i just don’t see how much further it can go/sustain this ind of volume…i’m likin the wall of sellers, not that they mean as much in a non pump and dump, but if we can take out 7.30, should be some good gains

  49. Ya my timbucks aren’t working either. Sup wit that.
