9 Stocks On Fire: So Many Plays That Are Surprisingly Borrowable To Short!

Tags: Hot Stocks, Potential Plays, Story Stocks, Supernovas

Plenty of stocks in play and surprisingly plenty of borrows today too! Only thing stopping me from reserving shares in every stock I want is my damn limited buying power! So, after being very selective, I’ve reserved 500 shares of CNEX, 2000 of FPP. Also got UQM and SSBX shares but I can’t have my orders working cuz of my tiny account. Wow, I’m down here at $18k voluntarily, I can always unleash $500,000 or so amongst all these stocks, but you guys, damn, how do you live? I mean seriously, how do you live?

Basically I’m still watching everything from yesterday’s watchlist and a few more/some updated below:

QTWW could/should breakout hardcore, but given that we’re talking maybe 20-25 cents of upside here, I can’t waste any precious trades/buying power on it…sucks!

Those of you looking to short PDO and MXC so quickly are just idiots. These things have broken out nicely and are squeezing the shorts and since their connected to oil prices, there’s no telling how high they’ll go. Remember how I said I don’t like commodity plays, that they’re not your typical pump and dumps? Again, I haven’t been in the game for this long and not learned a thing or two.

That said I am considering an FPP short cuz it’s much more low priced and extended here…but it’s gonna have to show me some perfect big ass morning spiking/afternoon fading action to make me execute a short on this one.

CNEX and BPTH are the two current Supernovas, both destined to fail…question is when. CNEX had trouble yesterday afternoon, but still finished solidly higher, even if there was a slight decrease in volume. After 5 pumping articles on Monday, 2 yesterday and only 1 so far today, this is clearly getting tired. Today’s choice of patterns are: big morning spike (good to short into), morning gap followed by sideways price action and an afternoon fade (ideal to short into!), a morning panic (tough to short into) followed by a rebound (good to short after a while if it seems to be failing) which may or may not fail or another gradual up day that annoys the shorts. I’ll be watching closely.

BPTH it doesn’t matter what I think cuz there are absolutely zero shares available to short, probly for the best considering anemic volume and a typical 50 cent price spread

SSBX
is a friggin’ finance play, not your typical pump and dump, aka don’t be too aggressive, probly only good for scalping.

KRY is facing the third day of a major runup, it’s gonna be tough to finish green.

UQM is a junkie company promising big things, classic classic classic amateurs are thinking “they’ve got an interesting technology, maybe I’ll buy some”-type play, always something shady going on in the background, not worth my time to dig as I don’t even have enough buying power to keep my short order working…doesn’t mean you can’t though.

Nice scans - I am watching many of those as well

    http://www.investorslive.com/b.....th-of-may/

Keep KYUS on watch here big time volume yesterday… this will probably test $3 or more before its time to stalk it..

FORC another one that snuck under the radar

SSBX nice double off bottom - I agree on the short, watching for it to gap and then sell off..

    good luck

Im starting to see what that hater dude is saying, been looking at your site for a couple of days. I like the short strategy, especially in this market but not on these crap companies. I do however think that he is an egomaniac and his comments are pretty f-ed up

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:19 am

“I like the short strategy, especially in this market but not on these crap companies.”

i wouldnt be caught dead shorting anything BUT these crap companies…there’s a reason why short selling is the most despised strategy around

  5. 5wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:20 am

Glad that your going to try CNEX again. Their chart is just overly rediculous! I was able to reserve shares myself.

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:24 am

King biscuit you like the Short strategy but not on crap companies????lol…good luck with shorting real good companies then.

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:24 am

i’ll always try again, i’m telling u, i made $2 million even with this horrible timing, these stocks are soooo good to short, its not to make big $ eventually

  8. 8Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:24 am

    Tim,

If you could get shares of CNEX to short, would you short now, or after the first down day. I know what your rules are, but I’m asking if you WOULD short it NOW if you had shares this morning?

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:24 am

lol cnbc are the kings of p and d! I feel sorry for new investors who are sucked in to their scams

For those who are interested in solars move. Some solars are on the fire again. SOL and CSIQ had nice gain yesterday. SOLF crossed above 200dma yesterday. SOLF has already traded 250,000 shares with about $0.50 or so gain in premarket.

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:27 am

I mean penny stocks guys. There are alot more predictable shorts out there right now, have you seen the Financials?? Id rather be short C or UBS, Leh, I could go on and on. Retail, etc, the short market has never been better. Just an observation is all, I see this has been effective for Tim, more power to you guys

  12. 12Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:28 am

    Tim,

Go ahead and strike my last comment and take away my non-existent TIMBUCKS- I didn’t read that you got 500 shares or your perfect explanation above. I have some shares and want to short now- would I be kicking myself if I wait for the spike that doesn’t happen today?

  13. 13investorslive

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:41 am

SSBX nice $4.75 high of day… hoping this spikes for a short

  14. 14wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:41 am

Tim, did you see CNEX? Droped off $1 instantly after it broke its trendline at 7…

  15. 15timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:43 am

damn guess i missed my CNEX execution when i tried shorting limit of $7…now $6.10….biscuit u got any stocks that drop predictably 20% in 15 minutes minutes LOL

tell me some of u guys got this CNEX short, it aint over yet!

  16. 16wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:44 am

I went ahead and shorted at 6.16, I probably fucked it up because I ended up chasing :( Too bad I didn’t short at 7 when it started the day with a decline. But when it droped it did it FAST, less than 1 min.

  17. 17timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:46 am

    6.16 is a good entry! 5.50 now

  18. 18wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:47 am

looks like it still has a ways to fall…shorted at 6.16 now at 5.5

  19. 19Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:47 am

damn CNEX and FPP dropped a ton already

  20. 20thebarcast

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:47 am

Can’t believe how fast CNEX fell, down to 5.50 from 7.15 in 15 minutes. I don’t know why people hate on Tim, never seen someone predict stocks like that, especially to help other people make money.

  21. 21Stoquer1

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:48 am

Here is a stupid thought buying the falling knife bounce!!!

  22. 22wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:48 am

why didn’t your 7 limit order work? Why not short it now then its back at 6?

  23. 23wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:50 am

CNEX’s graph is rediciously! Look at a 2 year view. It jumps 300% one day and down 300% the very next day. Its the biggest shell, scam company, penny stock scheem peice of trash. And I wouldn’t have found it without TIM :)

  24. 24timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:51 am

yah people can hate on my strategy all they want, CNEX is proof positive it works, whether or not i screw it up LOL…i close my DVD by saying u can do better than me, never uttered a truer statement in my life

wes, i dont short after big drops, for me i’m usually too early, as u can tell

  25. 25kingbiscuit

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:51 am

I think thebarcast has his days mixed up. 5.50 level was on the 9th

  26. 26wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:52 am

Wait did you already cover? Or did you just not get in at 7 (when you wanted) so you wont because its already droped?

  27. 27Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:53 am

    Tim,

You beat me on VRML when I tried to short at limit 5 and it passed me by. Today, I grew some balls and shorted CNEX at 7.25 to cover (I don’t know how many seconds later cuz time seemed to stop) at 6.15. Yeah, I left more than $1 on the table at this point, but I’ll take it. Is this POS a buy now for some retracement, or is it done?

  28. 28novalis78

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:56 am

man, that is tanking like the titanic…crazier than LDGI’s drop…unfortunately for me still all on WSS, as i am out of BP…hope you guys made it big time!

Tim, have you ever seen this kind of drop in this short of time? This is absolutely crazy- how great is it that there are other supernovas in the making as we speak!

Thanks for bringing excitement to the investment world!

  31. 31GoodeValue.com

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:58 am

wow, nice action in CNEX. Currently at $4.25/$5.00. Hope anyone short covered back when the ask was in the $4s.

  32. 32Stoquer1

    May 14th, 2008 at 9:58 am

Damn I wish I could trade pinks and OTC on TDA!! CNEX is friggin insane!!!

Congrats to all you in on it!

  35. 35UFgemini

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:00 am

    Hey Tim

Check out GCOG. This stock is on fire right now. Its at .015 right now but keeps doubling everyday. I love oil and gas exploration companies right now. Its money in the bank….check it out and let us know what your opinion is on this one.

  36. 36timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:01 am

go on haters, u got nothinggggggggggggg…when my readers can make 40-50% in 30 minutes, i just don’t know where to begin.

for the record, i made zilch on this play, missed my entry at $7–somehow–and still have that $700+ loss on it form yesterday….but my personal screw ups don’t matter cuz this is a damn great strategy!

  37. 37wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:01 am

I shorted at 6.16 and I have a stop in for 4.75… I still haven’t covered. I think it can go lower…Even though it is hitting some resistance around 4. I’ll prob cover if it hits 3.

  38. 38Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:01 am

Nice little spike on FPP off its lows, might give us an oppurtunity today.

  39. 39timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:04 am

wes dont get greedy, take your damn $1-2 and get the hell outta there before they prop this back up..

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:05 am

Nice to see order return to the universe with this CNEX self destruct.

  41. 41Fantom

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:05 am

Glad to see everyone profiting. I still working on my TOS account. Scottrade has my money locked right now. If I come to TOS with the minimum 2500-3000k will I have problems borrowing shares.
Hey Tim, I’m living tight right now. But as soon as I get that account straight, I’m living like you. LOL.

  42. 42wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:07 am

Tim I’ll be buying your DVD as soon as I start my job. I’m only 22 so I don’t really have any disposable income. I’m investing with my signon bonus, lol, only a small amount % of it in pennies until I get your dvd.

    Yup i’m up 30% in 30 mins.

  43. 43burky

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:07 am

Tim, TOS Canada has a rule about shorting stocks under $3. I recall you mentioning this before, but is it $3 or $2 for Americans? Anyway, has anyone been scolded by TOS for putting the limit order in above $3 on the borrow and then lowering it later?

  44. 44Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:09 am

Tim, SSBX is looking mighty shortable!

  45. 45Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:13 am

Teacher- I’m really liking a short here on SSBX. Will wait though…

  46. 46wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:20 am

I’m out. An even 30% return.

  47. 47Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:22 am

I actually like FPP and UQM more right now, they are showing some weakness and if FPP can rebound a little more than that will be my number one play after missing CNEX.

  48. 48Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:23 am

    Nice job Wes…enjoy that

  49. 49Bob (VC)

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:24 am

BHBC short? I know it’s a bancorp, and I know it’s earnings, but it just went sideways on a big climb..

  50. 50Ben_Bien

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:29 am

Tim, thanks for pointing out UQM, I took out a short this morning at $2.52.

  51. 51Fantom

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:30 am

Let me get this right, my bank pays me 1% interest rate annually. I’ve been long on a couple stocks and avg return is 17.9% for 10 weeks.
And wes just made 30% return in 2 freaking hrs!

Where the hell have I been all my life!

watching USU taking off past couple of days

  54. 54bullpicks6

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:41 am

wow look at that short squeeze trap they set on EGTS, very crafty…i thought it was done for once it fell through 1.20…looks like they’re learning new tricks

  55. 55Jeff C

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:42 am

USU looks niiiiice….still could run a bit…using any indicators on your chart (overbought/oversold, cci, etc?)? I’m watching KRY trying to emerge from it’s 6 month dive…

  56. 56Jeff C

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:46 am

SSBX looks likes its resting for now, thoughts/predictions on up or down move everyone? Same sorta six month pattern as KRY…crow trying to breakout.

  57. 57timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:46 am

none of these others plays even look interesting now that CNEX is gone :(

  58. 58will_the_thrill

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:46 am

can’t find any pump action on usu, someone has to know something, think LACO good short right now, inside buyer on Monday, now getting back to reality, could drop a buck

  59. 59Jeff C

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:48 am

NYNY is trying, remember this one guys?

  60. 60Bob (VC)

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:52 am

Tim, I know you’ve said you like to look for short opps on the third day of a run-up, but does that also apply to any three periods of run-ups followed by consolidation?

I’m looking at BHBC, and if it follows yesterday’s pattern, then there is absolutely no chance of a short today..

  61. 61Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:53 am

If FPP can get near its high today, that should be in play, looks like it could spike, but other than that or CNEX spiking again there isn’t much.

  62. 62wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:53 am

The only thing that I see which has been recommended by Tim is KYUS.

  63. 63timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:56 am

bob, thats an earnings play, avoid.

u guys gotta understand all patterns are not the the same! u dont just short into any stock running up. i dont have the patience to keep repeating this, seriously please make my life easier and get my damn dvd, there’s a reason i created it–to explain simple concepts like this! otherwise i’m just gonna snap

  64. 64wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 10:58 am

cnex back up to 5 from 4.1

  65. 65be-the-ball

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:01 am

    Tim,

Have you looked at CENT and CENTA?

  66. 66YngvaiMalmsteve

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:02 am

No short plays for me today. No buying power after buying CIMT and CHLN

  67. 67timothysykes

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:07 am

BTB: cent is an earnings play, avoid

Yngvai: why short either of those you’re begging to get squeezed.

both of u refer to comment #63

  68. 68YngvaiMalmsteve

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:12 am

Tim, I’m not shorting them. Notice I said I bought them

  69. 69GSCH

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:14 am

I haven’t posted in a while, but to the morons who critiqued my WM short, i told you GS was going to pull the rug, and keep bitching about Tim’s strats, check back to my WM post from 11.75 and 12.
So far this is how things worked for me.

    WM Short 11.75, 12.56, cover 10 (78,000 Profit)
    EDEN Short 2.5 cover 1.97 (2650 Profit)
    VM Short 4.8 cover 3 (36,000 Profit)
    VRML Short 4.85, 4.90,5, 3.66,
    cover 2.0, 2.2, 2.4 ,2.6
    (98,000 Profit)
    CNEX Short 7.10 cover 4 avg,(21,000 Profit)

Yup, Tim’s strategies are a complete failure. Too bad everyone’s making so much damn money from it…like a broken slot machine.
    Donation comming!!!

  71. 71YngvaiMalmsteve

  75. 75be-the-ball

  76. 76YngvaiMalmsteve

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:25 am

Earnings is coming for CIMT on May 19th or 20th. Last time, they had a huge run-up into earnings (look at the chart for February). Yeah, the volume sucks, but there’s not much downside to doing this play and a lot of potential upside which is why I chose it

  77. 77wes

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:30 am

Guys I just reserved 150 shares of KYUS, I figure there is more left, just a heads up if you wanna grab them.

You have to reserve new lots everyday right?

  78. 78Jeff C

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:31 am

Not ballsy enough to play NYNY or CPSL…what goes up can be scalped down…I’m still sticking to rules and watching KRY like a hawk.

  79. 79Davey

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:37 am

Wes…Yea you have to reserve shares everyday, they are not carried over.

  80. 80sykeshater1

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:41 am

Nice patience being shown by your teacher automotons. “Buy my damn DVD”. Nice. Either that or you are all a bunch of morons, either way recipe for disaster. I love the one guy who says he opened a 3K account and that times were tight. Smart, you’ll last maybe a week or two

  81. 81Goose

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:41 am

    Why short KYUS?

  82. 82burky

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:41 am

Fantom - I started a TOS account (Canadian but I assume little difference) with ~ $1900 and I’ve had no issue shorting.

  84. 84Evan

    May 14th, 2008 at 11:51 am

    Tim,

Looks like SSBX is the only one acting accordingly (too bad it’s a finance play). If you’re still :( about CNEX, watch this:

About CNEX - if you look at the volume, the pumping is mainly large blocks bought/sold right at the opening of the market (7th, 8th, 12th, 13th and today). If CNEX is going to get pumped/dumped again, pay special attention to it at 9am.

That pattern of the stock being pumped/dumped right at the open might be because the pumpers (singapore and Thai according to an earlier poster) are 12 hours off - they are putting their orders in early in the morning (our morning, their afternoon) for execution later.

If someone finds out those asian promoters are working a stock again it would be good to remember that pattern.
