I funded The Timothy Sykes Day Trading Award when I was just a wee Junior in college at Tulane University down in NOLA, but I love that it will live on forever…or as long as NOLA doesn’t get wiped out.
You can read about last year’s winner in this blog post, but check out the rules for this year’s award listed below:
My scholarship is especially cool because it’s not just open to Tulane University students, but also Tulane faculty and even Tulane alumni…so if you are part of Tulane University in any way, you are eligible to win $750 from me if you can prove you deserve it. (I donated $15,000 back in 2002, so we award $750 each year).
(If you know anybody who attended, attends or teaches at Tulane, please forward them this blog post, the deadline for applications is April 16th, 2010!)
Timothy Sykes Daytrading Award
Call for Nominations
The Timothy Sykes Daytrading Award for the Talented recognizes individuals in the Tulane community whose abilities and accomplishments may not be in traditional areas of endeavor.
There are many ways to contribute positively to today’s society, and this award acknowledges people with unique interests and passions.
The award was established seven years ago by Tim Sykes, a 2003 Tulane alumnus.
The 2009 Sykes Award winner, Matthew Holland, is a 2003 graduate who was recognized for his work helping entrepreneurs in developing countries.
Past recipients include 2008′s winner, Maureen King, whose family built a farm where vegetables are grown untouched by pesticides, and alumna Susan Zaluski, whose career in boat-building garnered her the honor in 2007.
Sykes Award candidates may self-nominate or be nominated by another member of the Tulane community by means of a statement (minimum of two pages) that describes the individual’s talent and includes a listing of his or her related accomplishments or an example of the applicant’s work.
Nominations are open to any member of the Tulane community — student, faculty, staff or alumni. Applications for the award will be reviewed by a committee appointed by Tulane President Scott Cowen.
Sykes Award nominations may be submitted via e-mail at timsykesaward@tulane.edu or mailed to:
