The other day was one of the scariest since I began blogging just over
2 years ago: no matter my 2,000 blog posts and 115,000 reader comments,
Google wasn’t ranking ANY of them.
I frantically typed in post title after title and yet my blog was
nowhere to be found on Google!
SH$%$#$!!!!
I panicked and called 911 on my phone—not the paramedics, I’d
programmed 911 to go to SEO mastermind for blog emergencies!
After a day or so of research I learned something very interesting. If you sell
text links on your website, you are breaking Google’s guidelines
because you are supporting the manipulation of their algorithm.
I had no clue what selling text links was all about, my old webmaster
just put them on my website because he said we could make a few bucks.
The service that he placed on my blog was Text Link Ads and I made
$2000 or so from it. I didn’t really know or understand what it was
all about, but it looked like a little easy money. But let me tell
you, it isn’t because it caused my Google rankings to drop biiiiig
time, wasting/forfeiting thousands of ours of blogging over the past
few year.
Learnnnnn from my mistake people: using Text Link Ads and similar
services will get you booted off Google and your traffic will drop
significantly. The current articles regarding Text Link Ads and Google
rankings don’t do the subject justice so I am writing this post to
help warn you. Because unlike some little wannabe journalists, I’m
writing from experience.
Don’t do any Text Link Ad-type schemes to make a quick buck. And if
you are clueless about this whole SEO game like me, be careful what
you do with your website. If something sounds too good to be true, it
usually is.
