Pondering Offering A Lifetime TIMalerts Subscription Option…

With my latest massive short selling TIMalert victory on APII, which is now down 45%+ on the day (detailed post with some ridiculously awesome testimonials coming tonight), I jokingly Twittered HERE and commented:

covered $APII for monster 25% overnight gains, now accepting lifetime TIMalert subscriptions http://www.timalerts.com

…and this is how my one-time greatest hater, Michael Goode, immortalized by his now classic “Timothy Sykes is full of bullship” blog post (read it HERE)-turned-greatest-fan (evidenced by THIS post) responded:

You serious about the lifetime memberships, Tim? I’d pay $1k for one.

I closed my last APII shorts. Total profit: $3267.55.

BTW, after my profit in APII my total NET profit from trading your system (both on my own and following TIMalerts) for 2 months has been $15,342.87. My largest position was $55k in USS; every other position was under half that size. My weighted average profit per trade has been 4.57%.

Get out your Hooked On Phonics sets & put on your reading glasses haters, this guy is up $15k+ in 2 months from my alerts….makes me think, maybe I should come out with a TIMalerts lifetime subscription?

After all, I’m a healthy 27-year-old and no matter what ends up happening with this site and my newsletter, I’ll always be able to spot frauds/pumps so I’ll always be able to write/talk about it somehow and that has value, right?

$1k is definitely a little low though, what do you guys think?

  • thanks prophet, actually i write down all my alert thoughts before i make a trade so theres no time gap when i actually do the trade and send the alert out...sometimes the price action go the way i want so those emails just get discarded

    I like the current rates. I believe it gives us freedom while giving us a choice of discount for purchasing it for a year. I think a lifetime to anything is a bad business and how are going to hold up a lifetime agreement to doing this? I subscribe to Timalerts and it is working out great for me. I'm already reserving shares before Tim even has it on his alerts. One suggestion tho is to cut out the amount writing before a trade. I think you should send the alert out with a brief action description then follow-up later after the trade is done on the strategy. Might save you some headache while you are trading.

    I pay my phone with cards, no fking 3 years contract.
    I dont load my freezer with meat from Costco, I buy as I need.
    So I dont see why I would like to pay a lifetime membership.

    How about a $10 per PROFITABLE alert model? The subscriber has to be signed up on Covestor and if they don't make a profit because you pumped and dumped (or they just had poor timing), then they get their next alert for free. Until they make a profitable trade, they keep getting each alert for free. After all, if your business model is for real, then you should only charge based on results. Think about all the money you would've made for your alerts these past few months if you were charging $10 for each one that resulted in a profitable return for each subscriber.

    What do you all think? Let's change Tim's business model so he doesn't fall into the 90% of first year businesses that fail within a year. This lifetime membership is a perfect set-up for a FAILURE. After all, Toys.com thought they had a great business model back in the day...and look where they are (or aren't) today.

  • I would do it like domain name registrars...

    Do like a 1 month, 3 month, 6 month, 1 yr, 5 yr and 10yr registration... Each higher bracket, the customer saves a %...

    For the lifetime, they would have to have serious savings/ make it the best deal possible... Why not just do like a 50yr plan, because how long is a lifetime honestly?

    I'm in the same boat as Bob. I don't sign up for Alerts because my $9/mo stockfetcher subscription turns up most of the same plays. So I would never use the Alerts.

    lifetime? not a good business model. would you recommend a magazine, cell phone service, or other monthly/yearly subscription based business to offer a lifetime subscription? don't get too crazy, you're doing good kid!

    As for the $30, as I said above, it has nothing to do with money, it's personal preference (obviously I would make the $30 back on the first trade of the month). I suppose I could just pay the $30 and give you an e-mail address I don't check, but my cheapness disallows me from spending money on something I don't use..

    Forget Tim's life changing. I'd be more worried about the alert subscribers changing. Not many people here will live the traders life forever. The alerts will become useless to you if anything significant in your life changes which is very likely over time.

    And from an investors standpoint, why give Tim 1k now when you could just pay the 30/month and keep that 1k working for you?
  • website is same as alerts, the alerts are just posted there and then theres discussion, no free trials, no discounts, if u cant afford 30/month, no way in hell should u be trading these things

    Well, I'm the wrong person to ask as I am not a subscriber (the main reason for that is because I feel I'd never learn anything if I had it handed to me on a platter, but that's just me). But I would say $1000 is fair.

    What I would be interested in, would be the possibility of having a "Web-only" TIMalerts subscription, that would give me access to the website, but no alert e-mails (at a discounted rate of say $10/month or $100 year). That would allow me to join "the other side", but I wouldn't need to be spoon fed trades.

    I wouldn't do it unless the price can be matched with regular subscriptions in 5 years or less. Look at how much your life has change in the last 5 years? What makes you think that what you are doing won't change again. I just don't think it is worth the hassle. Even 1k lifetime is over 3 years of timalerts at its regular price.
  • Sure, offer the option Tim.. hell.. why the fawk not? If you get 100 users, that's a quick 100K in your pocket! It's all about money.. and as long as you don't sell yourself short, it could be well worth it! Personally I think 1K is way too low. Try 5K to make it worth your while.

    But since everyone should be capable of simple division, I can't imagine they'd go for it.. figure $1000 is 33 months approx.. almost 3 years.. why not just pay the $30 a month for a year and see how it goes?

    As I say.. if I were you.. definitely offer it.. but if I were a subscriber or someone thinking about it.. I'd stick with the monthly or yearly.

    BTW: will be one of the TimAlert subscribers shortly.. $30 is less then most people pay for a good trading software for gods sake.

    You have blown past the 25k mark and over %100 finally and not even a word about it???!?!? Now the cuffs are off! not even a blog post boout the bullship milestone? only a milestone bc the SEC makes it one but nonetheless a great accomplishment congrats...

    I love telling all my buddies at work bout yuor strategy and hear them all try and blow it out of the water...sad thing is after %100 they still arent beleivers! sux for them
