July Review: Up 16% For The Month, Now 89% Since TIM Inception 9 Months Ago

Posted by Timothy Sykes on Mon 4th of Aug, 2008 04:05:54 PM

July was a damn good month in which I finished up 15.9%, or just under $3,500, to $23,485, just a bit under the critical $25,000 asset barrier. What’s more, website traffic (especially thanks to the new subscribers-only TIMalerts.com website), PennyStocking DVD sales, testimonials and most importantly, reader learning and earning all surged waaaay more than my pesky little 16%.

Comparisons to the major indexes–why bother? You all know these major indexes are getting crushed, that PennyStocking, even with my flawed timing, is crushing every single index/strategy known to man (seriously it’s fair to call this industry pathetic if I’m really gonna stay #1 on Covestor)(see rankings HERE) and that my already-healthy ego is larger for it. No point in detailing all that…at least not without devoting an entire post later this week!

See a table of my July trades, chart of website traffic and all my favorite posts from the month that was:

Date Stock Buy Sell Net
July 2 TGC $3.44 $3.49 $80
July 2 HYGS $2.15 $2.29 $260
July 3 TGC $2.14 $2.39 $471
July 8 ERII $11.29 $11.00 $162
July 11 IDAE $2.27 $2.49 $630
July 15 MNLU $6.37 $6.73 $340
July 21 ZYXI $3.03 $3.18 $130
July 22 MKTY $4.10 $4.28 $240
July 23 MKTY $4.73 $5.40 $187
July 29 USS $4.05 $4.61 $823
July 30 USS $2.54 $2.69 $205

Website traffic grew….again….in the dead heat of summer…amazingly (edited to include TIMalerts…still woulda increased a bit even without it though):

  • Wow - good work Tim! Up 89% in 9 months in this market? Ridiculous. That SHOULD silence some of your critics - even though it won't.
  • thanks for the kind words, lots of brokers have international customers, just call around, thinkorswim, interactive brokers, speedtrader, those are the top 3 for my strategy

    Commodity play = ?
It can be a real finding (gold, oil) and it therefore really add value to the company.
    Financial play = ?
    Hard to understand what's behind.

Are there any more plays to watch out for?
Merger/Buyout, trending stocks that the price grow slowly and constantly (ex:IDAE).

This is only my opininon, some people may think differently.
  • younggunz
What he is talking about is that those plays are based on actual events happening that commonly effect the price of the stock. Many of those events happen when the market is closed so by the time you find out whether it is good news or bad news the stock price will open the next day and already have adjusted for the news. So you can gamble and try and predict whether up coming news is going to be good or bad for the stock price but it is very high risk.

What he is commonly looking for is volatility in a stock price without any good or bad news. What seems to be a common occurrence with companies that have really low stock prices is that they pay stock promoters to spread the word about their company in the form of spam emails and professional looking newsletters. People that are desperate for a big score buy into the hyped up spam and push the stock price artificially higher. Most often then not when that happens the company can't maintain the newly higher price once the spammers are finished and the price will crash.

  • total_keops
    Rene,
they report earnings after market close today and this is like rolling a dice, unless your an insider and you like the prospect of wearing an orange suit for 10-15 years.
IMO, if the earnings are good and the gains are extending it might become a good short.
  • no rene, its not my strategy, watch PennyStocking and learn:

    Hi Tim

Will this be a nice short some time? TGIC, 170% in just 2 days sounds a little bit cheap. not much volume but a nice long downtrend on the daily chart. what do you think?
