7 Gas Stocks Breaking Out: To Buy Or Not To Buy, That Is the Question

On my ridiculous watchlist today there are too many crappy low priced companies breaking out…all will soon be good shorts, my specialty, but for now, I’m tempted to buy one or more before the close…never in the middle of the day (no protection!)

Let’s compare and see which, if any, should be bought. The contenders are:

Tengasco, Inc. Tengasco, Inc. (TGC)
Northern Oil & Gas, Inc. Northern Oil & Gas, Inc. (NOG)
Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. Kodiak Oil & Gas Corp. (KOG)
Blue Dolphin Energy Company (BDCO)
Royale Energy, Inc. (ROYL)
Samson Oil & Gas Limited (SSN)
Pinnacle Gas Resources, Inc. (PINN)

    Gotta agree with Moates here. It's all about momentum. Momentum is just starting with some of these low-float energy stocks. Not a good time to short them....yet.

    SSN looks like it has more room to run than the rest of them. I bought it at $4.50 in after-hours, only 1 cent above the closing price. Plus they had some fluff news recently that they're supposed to spud some Texas well next week, so hopefully that will keep buyer interest.

    Let's see these energy stocks run a little bit more, baby!

    lol, I'll be sure to keep that in mind. I know they're POS stocks, but you have to go with the momentum. Everybody and their dog is investing in these...dogs. Eventually it will be time to short, but not right now. Besides, the last time this happened we had stocks like ROYL, FPP, and MXC going vertical for almost 3 days straight. I know trends change and markets adapt, but I seriously doubt with the momentum they had into the close that there will be a major sell off tommorrow. Every broker in NYC is saying to their major investors: "oil and natural gas is where it's at, not only that, but SMALL oil and SMALL natural gas. BUY BUY BUY!!!" At least that's what I'm hoping for and we'll see tomorrow if I'm right.

    Hey whatever happened to Wes? He was the one who did what I'm doing now on the 3rd day of the last oil and gas run up. I wonder if he's back in these.

    Up $773.35 on just about 28K invested long in KOG, NOG, PINN, ROYL, and TGC. Good luck everybody tommorrow, I'm expecting to by at 35K by the end of the day.

    Johnny Vento it went up over 12% from open to peak. Anyone that held through that entire ride and lost money flat out played it wrong. There was definitely money to be made on the long side, and many here did. Why'd you get so fired up, is there a past history here?

    Boy whata great day for buying..... with my sucsess of HYHY that put me up $300 because of the wonderful TIMalerts! During the afternoon i'd become lazy, watchin a few stocks, mainly giving up until i checked my mail and saw Tims blog about the gas plays.. all of the gas stocks he had i had in my watchlist---IRONIC!!! the main stock i was watching was TGC, im not big on oil and gas play but ahhh wat the hell. I got in TGC at $1.75 buying 1000 shares.. im holding till the morning, hopefully this gets pumped some more.... THANKS TO TIM ALERTS IM UP $400! THANKS TIM!!!

    All these small cap oil plays are going to have a nasty hangover when the party is over. Ride em till they buckle. We won't time the top so scalp them for profits and wait for weakness to enter a short position.


    Minute you fall in love is when you get blindsided. Take HYHY as an example. Up 18% at the highs of the day and ended the day in the red. Tim scalped his 7% without any care how high it went. This is smart trading.

    If you can master the art of not smashing your head in the wall after a stock you sold for a 10% return goes up another 10% a few hours later you know you've graduated.

    I keep seeing some fake bid from ARCA on HYHY for 99900. He puts it in 10 cent below share price. In my opinion it's a short seller accumulating shares on the short end to drive prices up.

    Tim and everybody else, I'm long overnight in:
    TGC @ 1.77 2000 shares
    NOG @ 15.76 500 shares
    KOG @ 4.89 1000 shares
    ROYL @ 10.64 500 shares
    PINN @ 3.15 2000 shares

    I'm not that great at the long side, but looking at the fervor the last time this occurred, these things ran up the entire week. Will be looking to get out first thing in the morning then hopefully play the short side.

    Tim, you don't have to subscribe my service, it is FREE btw, hehe :-) QBIK (I think was your pick or at least someone mentioned), going to close above $4, perhaps is a buy and hold O/N (that is overnight). GBP looking appealing to hold O/N as well.

  • I usually get these mailers quickly before the masses so thats usually my strategy as to how to play these things, for example with KYUS

    Now they squeeze all the shorters into close - they clearly have one goal in the beginning of these runs, dip dip scare out the weak, trap the shorts dip dip and squeeze

    thats my strategy :)

    Short MYEC 400 shares I shorted at 3.80 some time ago... die bitch... die...

    Kris,

    ROYL has a 1/4 of the float and a 1/5 of the market cap of NOG so you're going to get more volatility.

    They are all similar. Some traders don't like trading dollar stocks like TGC.

    ROYL and PINN are the two I'm in. Everyone has their own style though so do with what makes you comfortable. I will say if ROYL closes at a new 52 week high buy right before the close so you can sell at the open tomorrow. Odds will be in your favor for a gap up though nothing is guaranteed in the market.

    Looks like 3.10 is the resistance line for PINN.

    ROYL up on high volume. Will attract a bunch of attention into close and gap up tomorrow morning. This is one you definitely should be in if it closes high of day. Early morning action predicted big move ahead. I think it spikes huge into the close and makes a new 52 week high.
