TIMradio #4: Michael Covel, Best-Selling Author Of Trend Following & The Complete TurtleTrader

There are finance writers and then there are finance writers. Sadly, most fall under the category “author only because it’s a great way to get exposure for fee-based businesses thus increasing income streams”. Yup, all you sugarcoating scumsuckers know EXACTLY who you are–enjoy your hedonist meaningless lives you soulless bastards–for too long you’ve helped nobody but yourselves, sullying the reputation of this once great industry!

Sorry I digress, some people just piss me off.

The good news is there are authors out there who write because they wish to share useful information, helping to teach you news ways of making money. I was fortunate enough to sit down and talk with one of the greats, the ever bustling best-selling author of two books that are required reading, Trend Following And The Complete TurtleTrader, Michael Covel. Forget buy and hold, these books are about those who have created fortunes from trend trading–and there’s quite a few of them…(remember Ed Seykota’s music video?) no wonder why he’s sold hundreds of thousands of copies. Click the interview button below and then go out and buy his books–you’ll be amazed at how well this strategy has fared, I know I was.

Listen to the Michael Covel Interview.

Sorry the quality isn’t perfect, but I’m still new at this so I can’t compete with podcast pioneer Disciplined Investor just yet

If you want to learn more about MC and the Turtle Traders , definitely check out his websites, MichaelCovel.com and his many cool Youtube videos. Stay tuned, he’s got a documentary film project in the works, guess who makes an appearance?

I guess I now have my next two books I’m going to purchase. After years of reading published books on stocks, Tim I must say that your book was refreshing and exciting to say the least. Not only was it inspiring but it revitalized me to get up and start actively trading and absorbing knowledge again that has left me this past year. You know more then anyone how coming off a hot streak that goes cold, one feels as if they must step back for a moment from the game and collect themselves. As you say in your book one must always be adapting to changing market conditions, and I feel that as I became more successful that’s what I was doing, but I simply didn’t realize it. Reading your book for the third time now, has helped me put somethings that I have been successful with into the forfront of my mind, in return I can concentrate more on WHY was I successful. And also consequently why wasn’t I, on any given trade. I’ll continue to sit more quietly now and simply absorb as much as possible to achieve greatness in this game and give me the finacial freedom I so desire and crave for. Thanks, Enorck.

Tim your interviewing skills are getting better and better. This was my favorite interview so far. Is there a way for you to let us know the date the interview took place? I noticed the Bear Sterns issue was discussed, so that is why I am guess this was recorded a month and a half ago? I also have to know why you mention a depression at the end?

I actually have his trend following book on the way. I’ve heard him on TD Ameritrade webcasts. I used to trade with them but use TOS now. TD Ameritrade has some good webcasts sometimes, Jack Schwager was on once, another book I am getting. Not much on penny stocking out there.

Heh, I’ve been getting spam for EMOC all weekend. I looked at its chart and it’s nothing special, I can’t imagine it’s going to do anything impressive one way or the other…at least any time soon.

Not only that it’s under $1…

Great Interview ……keep them coming. By the By…this is not my site but, FYI it would not occur to me to read the heading of this forum and think, WOW, I should read this thread because someone might have posted a trading opportunity / stock tip here. If you would like people to actually read and respond about your stock tips look for the proper thread. Good luck to all. Thank you Tim for this site I hope it treats you well.

What a coincidence! I just bought the ‘Turtle’ book yesterday! I was browsing the trading section and this one was very interesting, so I bought it.

It’s a great book so far, i’m in the beginning, but already like it.
