10 Hot Stocks & Other Cynical Views On The Trashy World Of Penny Stocks

Tags: Hot Stocks, Manipulation, Potential Plays

VRML Still 1,300 Shares short @ $3.75
LGDI

Both are supernovas, LGDI near its highs, but VRML still up waaay more %-wise…both have fading volume, both can still squeeze shorts even though they’ll probly fail. I’m short VRML cuz it’s up on stock promoters, ill-researched media story and best of all the company is a truly failing biotech microcrap in the same vein as REED, VION, DARA and PSTI—each of which also jumped 200%+ and have now retraced ALL of their gains (PSTI is only halfway, but give its also the newest)

VRML coulda woulda shoulda gone negative on the day, cracking the key $3.40 yesterday, but they smartly issued a fluffy PR I won’t dignify linking to (they formed a committee)(you think they don’t know that would squeeze some shorts c’mon, this is the beauty of pumping–they don’t have actual business to tie them down, their business is getting the stock up!…still, after an initial spike, very nice gradual downtrending all day, great sign, sooner or later, we’ll get some panic selling

HDSN
You can’t stop this air conditioner play (seriously) after it just reported solid earnings…good for 25 cents/share intraday peaks and valleys, if you’re into that sort of thing

OIL
Woooo $125, I don’t care. I hope it goes to $1,000, then we’ll get plenty of great oil pump and dumps and our short selling profits will be that much greater when the whole world is in the midst of a crippling depression!

STATS
No, it’s not a ticker, just thought I’d share that 8 days into this new month, we just surpassed all the page views for December—that calls for a quintuple jewwwww yahhhhh!

CTDC
Great example of why you don’t short randomly strong penny stocks…Let it have its day in the sun, after all, this eternally trashy company just changed industries specifically to hype itself up! You don’t think I know what I’m talking about? Fine go ahead and short it, you’ll either make 50 cents/share or get squeezed $1-2, have fun with that craptastic risk-reward

SUNV
Great example of why you take profits on the reversal and then you move on when it stops going down

ENT
I’d never buy this kind of breakout, classic classic slight afternoon intraday/multi-month breakout above $3 followed by a little tankage—pros trying to create a self-fulfilling prophecy

NNVC
One of the all-time sleaziest companies out there, it ain’t spiking’ cuz its got a future, its spiking cuz its paying to be spiked! Nothing special, just the usual suspects

SYNM
Just because they’ve moved to the Nasdaq doesn’t mean they’re gonna stop paying promoters…it’s a gradual riser now

JYHW
Don’t forget about buying this one if and when it breaks $2.75, they’re a proven pay-to-play pump and dumper

HYBR
Speaking of paying companies, this one is near legendary and is trying to get back in the game. Anybody got a spare $100,000-$200,000 to loan them?

damn, Tim, you weren’t kidding when you said you’d post more pennystocking ideas on your new website; thanks for the work you put into the site and the content.

Oh yeah, I have an idea: since your site/business model is about showing that PennyStocking WORKS, how about making a page dedicated to listing some of your regular readers (your students as you’d call them) and log their performance. For instance, Tony Ellis is up BIG TIME by now, right? and so are some of the other fellahs. I will be up BIG soon too once I get my account up and running. But adding that feature on your site would further contribute to the community aspect of what you’re trying to build, wouldn’t it? Oh yeah, also check out http://disqus.com/; it’s a Howard Lindzon funded project.

    Morning Tim,

Looks like u got a new fan..(read first two comments)….https://www.blogger.com/comment.g?blogID=8170206075768301242&postID=6640878816506126253

Then Bro, I shit you not, this guys big play is to hold IMB (long) through earnings….BWAAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAAAAHAAAAAAA…

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:41 am

definitely gonna have a place for student to log their gains–and losses–this is just the beginning, this website is bare bones basic right now!

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:43 am

far too much credit for SKNY tanking, it was late in the pattern–as evidenced by unsustainable volume

  7. 7Ben_Bien

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:43 am

IMB is a little bitch play. I’ve had it under my ‘banks’ watchlist and it rarely ever shows any clean opportunities. That thing is poised to slide lower and lower. Check out PFB and other tiny mortgage-based banks that are similar to IMB.

  8. 8Ben_Bien

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:44 am

Did you ever make anything on SKNY, Tim?

  9. 9novalis78

    May 9th, 2008 at 8:55 am

Good morning Tim & Co. Reviewing G/L of members would indeed be cool. Gives credential to other guy’s picks and opinions…

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:05 am

why not trade USO, OIL, or companies like MRO, HES, CVX, PCO, BP people?

lots of buyers, more people throwing dollars into commedies, falling dollar, biggest % gain in 1 week of oil ever? hold for a few days? of even just today?

if u were to trade one of the both which looks the best?

  11. 11timothysykes

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:08 am

never made a dime of SKNY, it wasnt up enough and i didnt have any more trades i could do anyway

  12. 12Webster

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:10 am

Tim based on the fading volume if for some reason VRML were to spike back up on a trade or two past 3.80 would it be smart to add some more?

  13. 13J-Mo

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:20 am

Reserved 2500 more VRML this morning. Ready for that squeeze if it comes. Average cost/share is 3.6309 right now. Hoping for one more squeeze to 3.80 before this bomb drops.

  14. 14YngvaiMalmsteve

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:23 am

I’ve got shares of NNVC reserved

  15. 15novalis78

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:24 am

tim, did you get a chance to look at bpsg?

  17. 17monkiman

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:25 am

COOL, it will be nice to see others gains and losses. I use TOS for my pennystocking, but I also have IB account for scalping, or executing over 50 trades a day. So far, pennystocking strategy is very consistent compared to my scalping strategy. However, I did make near 20,000 in one day scalping LEH in march, but also lost 7,000 in one day scalping BIDU 2 weeks ago as it spiked from low 200 to 370 in a matter of a week. So pennystocking is by far best strategy to grow account consistently.

Ben_Bein, add SSBX on your list, if you haven’t yet. It was mentioned by investorslive a couple of days ago.

Site Comment - would be cool if the blog ran from bottom up and you could have it auto refresh every 60 secs or so. I keep this open during the day and have to refresh the page and scroll down every time. Would be nice to have it just refresh every so often with the newest blog at the top. Just a thought.

…almost like a chess game: executing the right move at the right time, anticipating hundreds of possible moves by other players in the market. Yes, it would be great to see how many here could make consistent profits.

Novalis, gotta get up early to get those shares. Don’t be J.

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:32 am

VRML down after hours but opened up . 08 up? another spike before the fall? whoo is pumping this thing whoever it is is doing a good job

  23. 23Millionairemind

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:40 am

SSBX, someone ordered 93,000 shares on level II, just bought 40,000 shares at $2.02 still waiting for 54,000 to fill. What does this means?

  24. 24sniper6

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:40 am

watch EFOI. I think it’s a long term loser, had a nice pop yesterday on news of a new CEO, but I suspect it will pull back nicely, maybe losing 10 - 12 % today.

  25. 25sniper6

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:47 am

more on EFOI, there were some recent insider purchases, but they were small potatoes, just some insiders hoping to start buzz. Strictly misdirection. This company is going to shit the bed.

  26. 26timothysykes

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:54 am

VRML is just a waiting game, could still spike, but sellers look determined today

EFOI who cares what u think, hate all these companies equally but focus on fundamental news and price action. new ceo and insider buying are not bearish and the stock isnt up enough…this isnt a game, u dont short random strong penny stocks or else the odds are against u

  27. 27Dan_O

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:55 am

Tim, You’re right about CTDC, it’s a “incubator” company which is a fancy term for a perennial pump and dump.

It used to be a Chinese internet security company (their website is down so I guess they’re probably not very competent), and now they supposably are going into solar. It’s all bulls**t.

I still think CTDC is a short if it can get up to 11.00 and show weakness (which it might with this nasty short squeeze going on). Don’t rule it out.

    Just my .02

  28. 28Bob (VC)

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:56 am

Come on VRML, time to say goodnight you little bitch.. That 5600 buy at 3.40 won’t save you now.. By Monday you’ll be just another discarded pumped n’ dumped.

I not very PC or PG with my comments, no?

  29. 29Ben_Bien

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:57 am

thanks for the SSBX recommendation, MM, but I don’t like the look of the chart. I certainly will add it to my ‘banks’ watchlist but otherwise it looks kind of scary. Keep in mind that just because a stock has tanked doesn’t mean it will certainly rebound. That’s the problem with calling these lows, because even once you call it, you might not see a rebound for a while. That is why I am adapting Tim’s method of shorting spiking stocks, because it is far more probable that these will fade after they’ve run up so high over so short a time interval. I would not recommend going with SSBX but hey, I could be wrong. I do not know the full details surrounding SSBX, but I am verrry familiar with other shitty mortgage-related banks and entities such as TMA and MGI, so that’s why I am confident enough to trade those.

    May 9th, 2008 at 9:59 am

Tim- I’ve heard a few times about looking for the ‘Ax’ on Level II. For VRML, it looks as though it might be NITE, right? I have no idea what I’m talking about here, so whatever info you can lend will help me, and most likely the rest of you minions as well..

  31. 31Davey

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:00 am

Dan-O its not about price targets, its about price action. Let CTDC do its thing and then evaluate it.

  32. 32Ben_Bien

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:01 am

yea, I’ve been watching CTDC since the beginning of this week; it looks like a good target but we need to wait it out.

  33. 33timothysykes

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:02 am

bob no idea, i just look for key price levels to break…lots of other games, but until it breaks, i’m no confident, if it breaks and rebounds, i’m even less confident, but if it breaks and either tanks or goes down gradually, timayyy is happy

  34. 34Millionairemind

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:06 am

Ben_Bien, it absolutely doesn’t make sense to add anything tanked so much in your cart when shopping. I was mentioning this one just to add on your crappy bank list. And since it was mentioned by investorslive two days ago or so and I saw a 93,000 shares buy order from UBSS (still awaiting for 54,000) on level II and was curious, that is all. By no means it should be bought, but could be $0.25-0.50 gainer as investorslive suggested?

  35. 35Dan_O

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:11 am

    Thanks Davey!

You’ve got a great point about price action, as a gradual move to my price target wouldn’t work as a short.

My thesis is that these pump and dumps have overhead resistance built into them. That’s why I trade off technical levels and it prevents me from being early on these plays.

  36. 36bullpicks6

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:18 am

EGTS looks like a pump in the making, should be able to play this long side and then short side

  37. 37Davey

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:18 am

    Dan-O,

Exactly you’ve got the right idea with letting it run, just don’t set specific price targets because the target might not indicate anything. It could hit 11 and go to 15. But yea, you’ve got it correct to leave it alone for now, just watch.

  38. 38JMoates77

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:26 am

Tim, what does the level II action look like on VRML. I can’t see it on TDA without a pay-mambership to their shitty club. What’s the size blocks are we lookin at on the buyer side?

  39. 39Al

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:30 am

    Is PDO breaking out?

  40. 40Dan_O

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:32 am

Davey, I love charts man, I like setting targets because it allows me to track 30+ charts a day. Also, I trade option collars (not on MOMO’s) so it helps estimate the strike price to buy and sell.

It’s more of a “heads up” thing for me, and I never trade on triggers.

Anyway, thanks for posting your entries and exits here. I’m still not as good at this as you are and it helps to look over a more experianced shoulder.

  41. 41Bob (VC)

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:35 am

JMoates- for TDA, you just need to make 5 trades in a month (or something like that) and you are upgraded to Apex w/free Level II and Bookviewer (which I prefer). Right now according to the Bookviewer, there are about 7200 combined buy orders at $3.40, but that is the only big block on the radar. There also looks to be about 3x the number of sellers as there are buyers.

  42. 42Dan_O

    May 9th, 2008 at 10:35 am

JMoates, bluff them into giving it to you for free. Tell them you’re thinking of moving over your account from blah blah brokerage to TDA and you want to see what they offer.

    You gotta hustle ‘em.

EGTS looks like a pump getting started as i said

    May 9th, 2008 at 11:07 am

Anyone else scared off by uniform bid and ask quantities? Can there really be 30 buyers and sellers buying and selling 500 shares every few cents.
