The World’s First Billion Dollar Home Sucks! How Would You Spend It?

Posted by timothysykes on Sun 4th of May, 2008 02:21:05 PM

Just saw THIS pathetically un-embeddable video coverage of the world’s first billion dollar home—which is actually gonna cost $2 billion—and I felt pretty sick to my stomach. Sure, it’s just a small fraction of the guy, Mukesh Ambani’s, India’s richest person, $43 billion net worth and he has every right to what he wants with his hard earned money, but I couldn’t help but wonder how $2 billion might be better spent.

For instance, for just about the same price Mukesh coulda woulda shouldla bought Wendy’s, whose 6,000+ stores bring in just over $500 mil in revenue each year. Or maybe take on a new industry by buying hot hot hot company Nanosolar. Then again, I guess a badass house is better than just throwing $2 billion away as Merrill Lynch chose to do

Me: luxury goods and I don’t see to get along too well—I always lose or break them all—so I’d probly spend the money expand on my Tulane scholarship, building a worldwide financial education program…start young and go grassroots, aiming to replace the near-useless-in-life priority-flawed Little League program (which would not only be fun to try to do, but infinitely more fulfilling than any thing / piece of property will ever be).

Let’s hear from you, how would you spend $2 billion?

I’d buy the world’s biggest crack rock.

“I would invest half of it in low risk mutual funds and then take the other half over to my friend Asadulah who works in securities…”

  3. What would you say about TAJMAHAL? One time cost at that time now giving lots of job for many people in India.

  4. 4

I would hire Tim Sykes at $ 12 million a year to wear a bow tie and a vest and appear in the new CNBC show co-starring with Suze Orman and Jim Cramer to talk about how to invest in a well diversified portfolio.

Then I would buy a huge boat and sail around on luxury. The remaining for helping poor kids and stuff.

  5. Create a handful of non-profits. Neighborhood revitalization, no-kill animal adoption centers…etc. Then after traveling for year, start a cafe/doggie day care combo unless while traveling I find something fabulous to do elsewhere.

  6. My 2 billion; my future foundation would have been on top of the list, which would help people in the community get educational skills. That’s unlimited money.

2; Fast food franchise, but something more healthier on the menu than what we’ve been seeing.

3; A full scale tech support company, to compete with best buy geek squad. The prices suck.

    4. And of course a seven figure dump into the great stock market, ahhhhh I’m a newbie and I’m enjoying making every penny!!

    Thanks Tim.

Simply take half, Deposite it with the Central Bank, Become a banker, leveraging it into 10 to 100 Bil. Giving you the ability to create money from thin air. Many of Tim’s readers are younger and may not understand just how corrupt our systems are but Tim is doing a great job of exposing the truth behind the curtain of lies we have all been led to believe. Go to YouTube and type “Money as Debt” into the search and take a few minutes to watch the 5 part video. You will then truly be able to start to comprehend what you are up against in this world. And that is just the beginning. Use wealth for good. Those returns will bring true happiness. Give to those in need, expecting nothing in return and you will discover true riches and happiness. With the billions and power you aquire having become a money magician, Start some businesses and foundations. Be Honest, Do some good. Above all, don’t be greedy as wealth can vanish as fast as it appears. When you’re young and broke it’s hard to believe, but it’s the quest, the journey, that is truly exhilerating.

  9. 6 billion tacos.

  10. saw that house on yahoo, looks like a tricked out birdhouse. 2 Billion to spend would be really tough. I’d build a massive business empire, buy a couple sports teams. Take Rebecca Jarvis on a killer date. And buy a NES system where you didnt have to blow in the system for it to work.

if i had a billion dollars i would create the worlds biggest piece of swiss cheese and launch it into space- im talking like bigger than the moon big.

    and id buy a kitty

Most disgusting thing I’ve ever heard of. I thought 21 year old Lauren Conrad buying a $4 million dollar house was bad. I would take a bunch of poor children to Disney World. What could possibly be more rewarding than seeing the smiles on children’s faces.

  13. Live in NYC comfortably, that

  14. how the hell does that girl have 4 million dollars for a house? great idea though with the disney world trip. I’ll add that to my list as well

  15. OMG $2B? Where to begin? Travel the world and give some away to random people who seem like they need it (imagine some of the international kids saying “whaaat? U.S. dollar? You keep it, we don’t want this worthless sheet). Buy a small custom house in the country that’s powered by solar and wind panels. Hire a maid (Ashlee Dupree if she’s willing to clean my cool house for $200/hr). Fly to NYC and play golf with Tim Sykes. Leave 100% tips everywhere I eat/drink/get service of any kind. Never tell anyone I’m a billionare. Crap, that only takes care of about $2 M…I guess the rest gets invested and I’ll use the returns for philanthropic projects.

  16. First. I would build a beautiful high school for Latino youth. I would hire the best instructors I could find, all PhDs. Find the best resources available for my students, and offer them every possible opportunity to learn and grow to make them ready for their futures.

Then I would start finding companies willing to offer full scholarships for those students who keep their GPA up to a 3.5 every semester.

I would travel the world, a personal goal, and see how people of all backgrounds live. Learn from their lives and governments and try and implement that into my high school.

As a 19 year old college student. I know that youth are our future. They are brilliant, just unmotivated. I would consider it my personal goal to help everyone of them find their potential and succeed, as so many people helped me find my potential and helped me succeed.

God I want to build a high school! haha

Does that sound weired? Not so much weired as impossible huh? haha. I can dream!!! =]

  17. watch FRPT to see if it breaks out tomorrow.

  18. One billion?? I can retire even with 2 millions. 1 million for Tim to play on his new Hedge Fund and 1 million for me to travel the world. hehe.

  19. 19

2 billion?? dayyum… should take a lesson from richiest man in the world Warren Buffet, who still lives in his home bought for $31,500.

i’d ping Timmer for a round of golf (anywhere in the world), fund a North American Tour for him to speak, and start a publishing company, specifically to get his product mainstream.

And then the obvious… set aside, oh, $50 mil for my son (although he’s well taken care of already, but…); eat the finest food out there (probably go for that $1,000 pizza I read about in NYC); donate to various charities all over the world… and go sky diving naked. Drink?

  21. well w/ the first $100 of it you’d have to invest in a good robe to day trade in. gotta sport some nice threads while pimping some overhyped stock. hey the robe worked for Hefner! then i’d have to go with my own Necker Island and live a day in the life of Richard Branson. everything else could go to belly dancers and Spitzer’s entertaining girlz. ha…actually spitzer was smarter than that…just use tax dollars and keep the rest in your own pocket.

  22. gotta love the ashley reference i think she’d somehow be involved in all of our 2 billion dollar expenses. I’d put her in a cake and send her to Tim’s for his birthday next year

  23. i think i would just do the biggest ego trip ever. only do stuff that ive always wanted to do.

but i think before we think about spending it we should really think about how to get it in first place. dreams can come true!

    oliver,

HA! Great post! Dreams do indeed come true!

  25. Ridiculous! Guys like this think they’re modern day pharoahs building a palace for themselves. I don’t care if these guys are worth 10 trillion dollars. Their shit probably smells as bad as mine if not worse.

  26.

  27. $2Mil to General Dynamics to buy a ICBM to blow up that hideous $2B excuse of a birdhouse.
    $1Bil in educational endowments.
$250Mil to build irrigation in Africa.

Rest in income-producing commercial real estate, mineral mining companies, solar technology, water desalination plants, and 2 dobermans trained by the same people that trained Steve Wynn’s German Shepards.

  28. Convert them in euros before Bernanke gets in his helicopter again ;-)

  29. Timmy,

You are talking about mukesh. That guys got all his money inherited from his dad’s wealth. Ambani who is a man of power never like to hear “NO” for anything. Anil and Mukesh ambani just splitted out and trying to compete each other both spending and expanding their empire.

You would sure to feel more bad if I tell you, these guys I don;t know which one specifically spend millions in his daughter’s wedding. They spend lavishly which is total opposite of Warren Buffet. They can do lot better job by helping people like you said. They are doing lot of things but still can do more… I also hate be luxury when you see people in other part of world are dying just because they don’t have one time meal

    Good post..

  30. 249,000 2 diamond girls, and beer

  31. 31

a big mac or a regular meal for every kid in Africa

  32. 32

    or buy a small country

  33. The most expensive meal ever, 1 billion Fajita’s! Or just two women at the same time, they’d probably double up on me if I had that kind of money.

  34. I’d buy my own personal army and then invade Africa and free it of it’s fucking oppressors.

Then quickly be wiped out by the American military because they have too much money in letting Africans be murdered and mistreated…oh and starved.

    :O

  35. 35

I’d get invited to the 2 billion dollar house, then throw a couch off of the middle floor and yell, JENGA!!!!!!!

Looks like Jenga to me :)

  36. I’d get that 1000 ft. skyscraper built in Boston. This city needs more height.

I forgot to mention I would buy the Oakland A’s baseball team, and I would buy the Chicago Bears football team.

Then I would travel to every MLB baseball stadium and NFL football stadium…
