Young Or Old, Rich Or Poor, You Will Give In To TIM

Watch these 7 free video lessons on how I became a millionaire

It’s interesting to see how different people react to me. My TV appearances, trading strategy, big mouth, book, DVD, blog, etc all seem to stir up a wide range of emotions. Young people love my story—it’s inspirational, trading seems fun and easy, no bosses, wear a bathrobe, don’t wear a bathrobe, whatever. They also appreciate how I’m trying to open this game up to everyone, young or old, rich or poor. People around my age are always polite to my face, but I can tell they’re somewhat to very annoyed by my non-stop TIM promotion, especially on my Facebook profile.

As for older folks—the kind of people who use the word folks—they can’t understand why a trader would ever go back to trading less than 2% of his accumulated assets over the years, unless he’s lost it all.
Well, I’ve got some answers for everybody out there.

1. My story might be inspirational, but when I was making the most money, I was spoiled by a once-or-maybe-a-twice-in-a-lifetime bull market, I was aided by blatant price manipulation, I was naïve enough to keep betting all my money every time and most importantly, I was dumb enough not to know the difference. There’s still plenty of microcrapper volatility (see recent plays COIN, STEN, IDMI, SHZ, DARA) and money to be made (both long and short), but the manipulation is tougher to track, the patterns aren’t as easy anymore (they evolve, you gotta adapt). And, to be good to great, you’re gonna have to devote a lot of time to learning about all the variables and the subtleties of the marketplace (I can and will explain them all, but all this time writing/publicizing takes away from my trading so do as I teach, not as I do) (which, ironically, since I’m not a great trader in the first place, is exactly what I do teach, aka you can do sooooooooo much better than me)2. Despite whatever Wall Street snobs say, this stuff should be open and understandable to all. We should be totally honest with each other, there’s no need to be embarrassed of your losses–it’s only embarrassing if you don’t learn from them! There’ll always be suckers–total idiots and stubborn people might learn—thankfully (or else we’d have nobody to take money from!)—but with enough sharing of knowledge and experiences, we can help each other to enjoy safer and more profitable trading.3. As nearly all my actions indicate, I really don’t care what people think of me, I’ve got a lot of teaching to do and to find my students, I’m gonna search everywhere. Facebook is a great place—if not the best place—to find them.

4. Dinosaurs: Great wealth and trading gains don’t excite me as much as cutting through all the industry BS and helping others does. I haven’t lost everything, I’m only 30% off my highs (due to me ignoring my trading rules!), but to popularize this game, I’ve gone back to my roots so people with $5k, $10k, $25k can see EXACTLY how I build my account without the use of leverage. Trust me, I never saw it coming either, for a Wall Street kinda guy to taking on the role of a social worker?!?!?—must be all those damn Philsophy classes I took in college!

Granted, I think that by detailing PennyStocking to the world (and over the years, creating several millionaires in the process), I think I’ll be richer than ever, but even if I only sell two copies of PennyStocking for the rest of my life, I’ll blog often and freely, answering any and all questions in the FORUMS

After all, the beauty of trading is that it doesn’t just create great wealth, it also teaches us great lessons. And, teaching those lessons offers a greater high to which profits alone can never compare.

Your first book was very popular, are you writing a second one in 2009 or 2010?

  • lmsmith

    Well said Tim

  • timsykes

haha i’m actually writing 2 books, who knows when i’ll be done, soooooo many projects on the table

  • timsykes

i forgot who but somebody here shorted STEN, great job, up 10% in a few hours, the student becomes the teacher!

  • timsykes

and somebody picked XIDE earlier too, great job guys!

  • Tony Ellis

FEED looks interesting if it closes over 12.

  • Andrew

I know it moves slower than the loser of me racing a turtle in athletic world (http://reviews.cnet.com/games/athletic-world-nes/4505-9995_7-30965521.html) but CPST broke 2 and I think its on its way up. Today or tomorrow, 1000 share buy + 10-20 cent gain up = nice profit. What do you think?

  • Andrew

Also, it already has a 55% short percentage but check out the head and shoulders on VCGH

  • timsykes

careful with FEED, even though its close/looks like a breakout, it has a horrible history of multi-day runups/gap ups

cpst looks good but the moves just aren’t enough for me

vcgh is a normal stock, avoid

  • Brian D

21 years old, commute to college but looking to stick it to the man a bit. Favorite philosopher? I’m a Nietszche guy myself. I don’t follow many of your picks to the T but the big ones that get talked about most here (such as STEN, IDMI, DARA) I do play.

  • http://www.yourtradingstock.com Mike

Take a peek at THLD. Recent volume spikes and activity today.

  • Ken

    Tim,
Your strategy is great and I am following it, will buy your DVD soon…just waiting to make enough money in the market to afford your DVD. My question is this: Since the market is downtrending, how about if I short ETFs like KRE, UYG, XLF or buy SDS, DOG etc. overnight besides following your strategies? In a downtrend market, you probably won’t lose anything by parking your money on some stupid ETFs.

  • timsykes

i know nothing about ETFs, then u’re just playing market guessing games like everyone else. for me its only pattern based trades or my awesome mutual fund PRPFX

  • sammytwoshoes

    How about TIBX?

  • timsykes

tibx, horrrrrrrrrible chart, i’m just curious what do u see in it? either ong or short, i see nothing but randomness

  • Stan

wow tim that is a pretty good mutual fund! esp in bear markets 01-02 and now still making solid returns other mutual funds would be happy with even in bull markets.

im so confused on what to trade now, bout that time when i have no confidence in anything but the pressure is still on to make money, however im picking up small losses in the meantime. what do you do in times like this tim?

  • timsykes

don’t pressure yourself to make money in the markets–ever–forcing trades is when u lose. nothing looks perfect now anyway, wait for COIN to blow out its top and then short

  • http://theproficientinvestor.com James Wilcox

Nice article Tim, I also liked the article you wrote on AOL today detailing all those POS stocks you don’t want to touch with a ten foot pole. You didn’t mention RMKR though as I was hoping but it’s a dog anyway.

  • http://www.glguideservice.com Jeff C

Can someone post a link to the AOL article….I’m lazy, I know…

  • Graham

I wish you had your own stock Tim, because I would love to invest in your growth. You crank out 2 blogs a day sometimes even on weekends. I commend you for your spirit and determination, and have enjoyed readying your blogs (I’m a total stocks noob).

  • Evan

    Tim,

If you ever become an IPO, I’d have to stay long- I don’t have the heart to short you after all you’ve done for us. Unless of course you spike for three days straight for more than 500%- then yeah…I’d short the sh%@ outta you!

  • timsykes

i have nothing against csiq, at least no more than any other crap company. i def. wouldn’t short it, its put in a solid base

    evan–exactly

I’ll second that call on prpfx. “All through time, people have basically acted and reacted the same way in the market as a result of: greed, fear, ignorance, and hope. That is why the numerical formations and patterns recur on a constant basis.” JLL

The market is refreshing itself as the Japanese would say. There will be new players to go long on or existing companies will reinvent themselves like Apple did.

  • Tony Ellis

MXFD chart reminds me of COIN.

  • Tony Ellis

MXFD chart reminds me of COIN. WHat you think?

  • Joe

MXFD is a scam, same guys as RSPG and RRPH – check out KYUS too that’s their other baby after RVNG this time they walk them up slower Maxwell is the IR firm

MXFD has no chit on the books, trading at 1000x where it should – if it should at all

It’s on the RegSho thats about the only thing it has going for it

  • Tony Ellis

    I know it’s a POS…but I’m liking the chart!

  • bsl113

TIBX is a solid company. It might do down in the current market conditions. I don’t see any reason to short them though. It would be a pure gamble.

  • jack

I remember you telling the whole world you don’t need to know anything about the stock, if you are convienced the chart is telling you trending up or down on CNBC tv back when they brought you to speak on CNBC’s million dolloar game and now you are telling us you don’t know anything about ETFs on someone’s post up here?? Why do you need to know what the fu*# ETFs are?? It is a downtrend market, parking your money on something that makes you $100-$200 richer overnight just like your every pathetic gains every trade on TIM. Don’t you think you would have been lot better if you had plugged your ear and left your money on COIN when you first bought it (and then sold it taking loss after hour the same day?) And you touted don’t trade pre-market or after hours many times on your several posts??

  • Stan

OME is kind of like COIN

  • frankie

    Anyone plan to buy FART?

  • Gary

    TIM,
    Supernova In the Making!!!

    SYBD!

    How do you play this?

  • timsykes

ETFs are not stocks! I don’t play market guessing games, when I say its all in the charts, I’m talking about being able to predict specific movements based on patterns that influence others trading. ETFs don’t care about individual traders, they, like gold and oil plays, move based on the prices of their components. Verrrrrrry different. I play market in efficienices. Learn the difference

  • Adrian

went short coin at the open hard decision i think coin gives up some gains people have got to take profit sometime?? so far my my play seems to be working great will watch close this stock gains momentum fast

  • http://www.glguideservice.com Jeff C

    Any thoughts on SONS?

  • http://www.glguideservice.com Jeff C

SONS Looks like earnings news….kind of like FART…LOL

  • timsykes

i wouldnt short COIN here, in fact i might buy if it can break $16.30-$16.40 on high volume…never underestimate a breakout!

  • lmsmith

I do what I do every open morning on COIN…… 5 mins into trading…I buy coin…..usually 400 shares, and sell them when it reach that new high- and then I am out…I profit all the time…… I wouldn’t short it- it’s breaking new highs EVERY DAY………

  • Gary

    imsmith…thank you!

You said that samething yesterday. I looked at the chart and…yes indeed it is doing that. So, This morning I got me a peice of that pie.

    thank you.

  • Eric T

Can anyone tell me why is COIN making such huge gains and breaking out these past few weeks?

  • Tony Ellis

    COIN…where’s the volume?

  • Joseph

Damn Tim! just like you said

  • timsykes

another pathetic COIN breakout. Eric, its called a short squeeze/breakout. Very, very easy to spot, very, very difficult to play considering it the way it trades

  • http://jcutz5000@aol.com The Barber

SWC took a nose dive today on some bearish news. looks like its gonna downtrend from here…………..

  • lmsmith

I couldn’t resist- back in COIN again…… too easy

  • timsykes

i speak too soon, c’mon COIN, gimme a real spike!

  • Stan

i think theres def more money to be made going long than waiting for a spike to short but the higher it goes the more worry some id get going long

  • KF

SWC..nice fakeout yesterday almost shook me. Dilutive private placement and declining metal prices…perfect storm if you ask me. Doesn’t want to seem to break the psychological barrier of 20 though with any conviction. All the stops are right below.

  • Al

    EXAS up 50% on news

  • Eric T

What do you guys think about shorting RHD? My friend put in a short tuesday and is $300 in the money so far. Looks like good volume and a definitely nowhere to go but down.

  • timsykes

SWC, shoulda woulda shorted into that breakdown of $19.80–the low form the other day,, now $18.80, shoulda woulda coulda, shoulda woulda coulda

RHD, its down so much, u risk spikes

  • Stan

Tim – patience paid off again with RYL shorted at 27.40 it went up yesterday but went down nicely today .. about to cover in the neighborhood of 26.50 but im debating it to go down more by tomorrow morning but i think i should collect my profits, what do u think???

  • timsykes

no idea about RYL, totally random chart, not my kind of play at all

  • lmsmith

TMA just hit bottom today- any thoughts? I would love to ride if for the bouce up- but I am scared that they might diminish completely…….

  • timsykes

I’d never play a stock like TMA, what possible edge could u ever have? its news related, cnbc, every fund manager playing it….no thanks, i’ll stick to inefficient markets!

  • Stan

shorted RYL 2 days ago at 27.50 covered at 26.55 (near the days low) in the last seconds of trading – damn that was soo intense. who knows what happens tomorrow with it, thank god for that major sell off at the end of the day.

  • http://www.goodevalue.com Reaper

  • Sunny

Axl dropped below 2.90 again short it?
Srt bbi is not moving at all what do think

  • stuarttall

    I always want more

  • bassman52

AXL has nice sideway action and is easy to borrow at TOS looking nice volume faded big from yesterday too

  • dsmith

AXL just spiked to 2.62 now bouncing off 2.70 and rising 2.78 resist @ 2.80 also 2.80 is the 5day VWAP.

NASDAQ and NYSE about 1600 stocks down, about 900 up

  • Getshorty

Ten TAnking, seems people are not caring about analyst upgrades anymore. It just makes sense.

  • Getshorty

Looks like TEN can break under 6, go baby!!!

  • Getshorty

    TEN under 6

  • Sunny

Damn GS we would all have got this yesterday from ten
Out of bbi for 133$ loss hit my stop loss

  • Getshorty

got a stop loss at 6.2ish short from alert and then increased short yesterday at 7.4ish after it started fading from 7.5ish, for an average short price of 6.94, could have loss my shirt, not recommended.

Covered 2/5 of my position on temporary spike at 6.76, still in for the rest, tightening stop with each step down.

  • BuckeyeTrader82

    BBI
    Shares: 500
    In: .86
    Out: 1.14
    Profit of $137

  • BuckeyeTrader82

should have went larger position in BBI oh well shouldve couldve wouldve

  • rsean78

TEN no!!!! if only I waited a day longer

  • bassman52

150 dollar loss on AXL bad entry stupid

  • schistyakov

Shorted 500 AXL (was too scared after TEN loss) at 2.90 covered 2.70. Quick 100 in a minute or two. All done as outlined in Tim’s todays email

  • duzas

Third day on this site. Second trade:
+112$. AXL Short 2,91, Cover 2,74. Not much, but it’s better than loss.

  • ferrari

yeah i got out of TEN and just lost my commissions but it was a sweating day yesterday! I had my trigger ready to purchase .30 calls to protect myself in case of a HUGE upswing. Luckily that didn’t happen and I was able to get out at the entry price (had I waited I could have actually made some money..lol)

  • darkseraph

    damn TEN

  • SRT8U

I was stopped out of BBI @ 1.14, but I still made a nice profit because I had already sold half @ 1.15 yesterday

I think it still has room to run, Pivot points are around 1.11, 1.19, and 1.27. I will buy again if it breaks out past $1.30 and holds.

Bought CORS in premarket @ 1.08, sold @ 1.30 for a nice $540 gain- Arent playing all Pennystocks gambling? Especially when shorting, thats more of a gamble then buying on an uptrend to me. Trying to learn- But from what I have seen so far shorting is more of a gamble than buying in the current market state. Shorting the banks would have been the best play of the week

ANDS up today, I am still long on this one, resistenance at $3.00, breakout will most likely happen after the $3.20 range, target $6

You want verification of my trades? Check my post timestamps and the testomonials from people here who have made gains this week =)

  • dsmith

AXL @2.75 bounced its head on the declining daily/weekly VWAP 2.86

  • ferrari

Tim, would you short GM here? This stock is going to be either worthless or a nickel a share? Would like your input.

  • schistyakov

SRT nice to see you here again man, there is a crowd in chat again asking where are u! come on in there

  • SRT8U

Shorting GM is risky, any news can come out that can lift that stock up to the $1.60-1.80 range.. crazy as it seems, but GM rebounds quickly on almost nothing positive.. if they said they found a used condom inside the cab of a Chevy Silverado the stock would gap up

  • http://www.MoneyPhilosophy.com MoneyPhilosophy

SRT8U – Do you have any options recommendations?

I’m looking for something high risk – high reward. I’m new to options. And I feel like gambling.

  • SRT8U

I cant make it in chat today, I am working on some actually work for a client- chiming in here and there, not intraday trading either, just holding my long positions and looking at my long term portfolio drop like a motherfu#^&@

  • ferrari

what about shorting GM and protecting upside with some cheap calls…

  • schistyakov

SRT it’s always cool, whenever you can bro. what do u think would be a reasonable stop for ANDS, I have bought at 2.84 yesterday now watching it sliding down gradually???

  • ferrari

execs just unloaded all of their positions today and caused the stock to drop. I think its inevitable that this thing is going bankrupt.

  • SRT8U

Ferrari, I like where your head is at. I do that a lot when I buy large blocks of stocks over $5, I buy protective puts… the opposite of what you are doing.

  • dsmith

    AXL test LOD @2.62

  • SRT8U

I am riding ANDS for a while or until it looks like it is breaking down. Down market but ANDS is up, good indicator for me.

GM is a good idea; protect your short with calls!

As for some good option plays, in my opinion, ANDS June calls would be a nice gamble.

Gotta run, be back on later! Good luck to everyone today.. dont be anxious to get into a position because you might get bit on days like this

  • wallie123

    anyone watching COOP

  • http://www.MoneyPhilosophy.com MoneyPhilosophy

I got in on the June call on ANDS SRT8U – Just a $300 gamble ($5 strike, 10 contracts at 30 cents.)

  • Sunny

Axl @ 2.87 thinking of covering soon what do you guys think will it drop below 2.50

  • wallie123

Thanks for ANDS SRT. In at $2.80 out at $3.00. I have my $400 dollar profit and did not want to risk it, but I will keep an eye on the $3.20 level. I can always buy again if it breaks. I am becoming very interested in COOP went from .75 to 1.75 in 2 days.

  • Spit

Hi Tim, great call on AXL short 1000 shares from 2.74 to 2.57 nice $150 :)

Probably could have done better on my entry and exits but playing it conservative like you have taught us buddy. Perfect play and can read it like a book :)

  • bassman52

Hey sorry Tim you gotta put my 150 loss on such a nice short on AXL. I was trading way too scared. great pic tho NEXT!

  • jerry1213

I missed AXL as well for another play. But loosing also from there

  • Gunner

Im short on AXL at 2.80 and still holding. Every time I think of covering it just keeps going down. Should I hold overnight or just take my profits and run?

  • Sunny

Congratulation to all who rode AXL down.

  • Sunny

In at 2.87 Out at 2.37 … 350$ gain nice ride … Covered my losses from ten yesterday

  • http://www.test.timothysykes.com timothysykes

damn AXL, glad so many of u got in, i’m pathetic

  • http://www.kabam.com tbohen

Pfft whatever, your pathetic, your the one kicking it in the Turks and Caicos and were all siting in our Mom’s basements trading shitass stocks on a 486 over dialup…..

Timmy should get iphone 3G so that he’s not relying on internet.

  • http://www.kabam.com tbohen

Not on Tim’s watchlist but a very PS-like stock. In and out GOK for +350ish. Got bored waiting for it, and of course as soon as I covered it drops another 15 cents…

  • http://www.goodevalue.com Reaper

tbohen – speak for yourself. I am most definitely not in my Mom’s basement.

  • Pataxe

I am trading in a van down by the river! Really I am right by the Chicago River, can see it from my van window. I wish I was in a basement, its hot as hell out here

  • wallie123

you got AC in your van.

  • dino

    tim look at OMCY

  • BuckeyeTrader82

is TEN still a short play?

  • bill

thank tim for FSIN, which was in the watchlist couple of days ago. I followed the advice and bought 200 shares yesterday at 6.72 and today it closed at 7.61

  • dino

    MRGE look good

  • wallie123

better sell it Bill. Remember to take profits! even if it goes up after you sell it. I know it feels sickening to watch a stock go up after you sell, but whats even worse is having profits and then watching them turn into loses.

  • djsdream

yeah….got squeezed early am KAZ play…

  • Pataxe

I have to agree with Wallie, nothing sucks more than to watch a nice gain turn into a loss. It also messes with your head since you might then start chasing your losses and turn a small error into a really large one. On this I speak from experience. Two weeks ago i racked up $600 in losses all because I started chasing losses and trying to get them back. And you can always buy the stock back if it starts to rise again.

  • bill

    wallie/pataxe. Thanks for your reminder.

actually I had my lessons before. I bought AINV 500 shares. I turned $300+ profits to $10 profits because of a panic (of course, if I could have hold it, I would have made $500+ profit)

a trailing stop loss probably could be useful, although I know tim would not use any stop loss order :)

    Watch for tomorow:

    * BBI (earnings on Thursday, nice chart)

    * COIN (awesome weekly chart, great run, its ready to run higher soon)

    * DPTR (Oil is rising, DPTR is worth more and a lot of insider trading, im long on this)

    * UXG (Chart looks good, right about 50 day EMA, but dillution news may have an effect, it is breaks past $2.20 and holds thats a nice indictor for me, but a slow mover

    * GAP (I will watch this, dont know when, but it may breakout – look for entry point as it sold off because of crappy earnings)

    * NVDA (INTC had great news and chart looks good, INTC should assist this for a nice pop)

    * AMD (gaining momentum, news that they are catching up to Intel, INTC will have some nice running power tomorrow so I expect AMD to follow suit, check it out)

NVDA – Crappy news – Off List (but will be a good one later)

    COIN – Potential Short now

Today is going to be a boring day from the looks of it!
