TIM Wednesday Roundup

Posted by Timothy Sykes on Wed 7th of Nov, 2007 05:25:16 PM

TIM $12,808.84 (flat on the day, up $393.84 on the week)*

When calculating the $12,805 figure yesterday, I just estimated my commissions, my bad. (Don’t worry haters, just signed up for Covestor so everything will be verified) I didn’t trade today as I didn’t see anything worthy.

Finally! A decent size down day on the markets today—all the major averages d

own 2.5-3%. Maybe all this worrying about the dollar, oil, housing, terrorism, how all movies these days suck, etc. really do signal the end to this 4+ year bull market. Yeah, you noticed that movie line in there, right? It’s because I don’t care where the market is headed and you shouldn’t either! Don’t give into all the psycho-babble of those amateur-wannabe-economist-talking-heads you see on TV and in print everywhere. Whether you’re buying or short selling, as long as the market moves one way or the other, you can profit. Just don’t think you have to be a long-term investor—there’s enough people out there practicing that crap, understand it’s okay to be different. Yes, you can be special, too!

Onto today’s action: Just about all the stocks I was watching today were booooooooring: FSLR, SPWR, STP, WWAT, CREG, SYNA (at least it held onto gains for the most part—still waiting for a breakout!), no bounce for the wannabe-bouncers LULU, VDSI (looking cheap?!?!) and CROX, ESLR (nice gap-up followed by topping action) and you know what, tomorrow is a new day and FSLR’s blowout earnings tonight nullifies today’s action as they could the next BIDU/ISRG to break $300 (yeah who cares about $200, it’s already there after-hours, look ahead people…I’ll have more details later tonight.)

China plays got humiliated: BIDU actually finished down for once, CHNR, GSOL (damn, I wish I wasn’t such a wimp on holding my short longer, can you say $400 more in profits on a 100 share short position??!?! Idiot!) and YHOO are all feeling the after effects of their month-long Minnesota Vikings-esque Alibaba-sponsored fiesta. Time to sober up bitches! At least JRJC got upgraded today and finished up nicely as the analyst recognized the company is gonna have blow out earnings so he wants to take credit for getting people in early. (Luckily, subscribers to my new premium newsletter got in ahead of this call)

And last, but definitely least: CYGT finished unchanged, after showing off some continued buying interested at 8.5 cents. Hey, at these prices even bums can afford to buy in and since I bought so many shares at higher prices, I’m not too far off!

Warning: TIM, Timothy Sykes, and the Easter Bunny have positions in CYGT.

Please note that due to factors including low market capitalization and/or insufficient public float, we consider some of these stocks to be small-cap stocks. You should be aware that such stocks are subject to more risk than stocks of larger companies, including greater volatility, lower liquidity and less publicly available information, and that postings such as this one can have an effect on their stock prices.

Deuce, so you have to develop your own methon? It's not like "buy these stocks, sell these stocks" each day? So it's basically a screener and you have to find your own picks, or is it somewhere in between?
  • DeuceDavis
    Hey PCola,

I've tried out VV before. IMHO, it's one of the better screening software packages. You can use a wide variety of their proprietary valuations, fundamentals, technical, and your own custom-built indicators to screen for stocks. They also provide their own insight on how the market is doing, what strategies to use, and things like that.

I used it a great deal when I had a pc, but since moving onto the mac (only the express online version works), i've dropped it.

It paid for itself back when I used it.

Hope that helps some . . . i think you can get a free trial, of course.

Well, answered my own question by asking the live help. Earliest you can reserve is when the trading desk opens on the current day.
  • YoungGunz
Hopefully I can get some reserved shares with tomorrows watchlist. Can you reserve shares for tomorrow after the close the day before on ToS?
  • YoungGunz
had to leave my desk before the close and didn't get a chance to see if any were available. Don't know if the pattern is that ideal anyways for my first Timalert trade.
  • Reaper
    decent finish @ $3.16. I'm holding overnight.
  • preisendanz
    So you're holding overnight?
  • no real companies are different, players involved are totally different, see my DVD to understand
  • MikeY
By the way, just to see if I'm learning this right...

Would this be a good time to short GM? First day that it's closing negative (or so it seems)after 4+ days of a run-up.

I understand that GM is not a pump and dump, and very much a real company. But, do the same concepts still apply?
  • would've liked to see ZYXI fade into the afternoon, but as i said initially, this may take a few days...
  • MikeY
Tried to reserve ZYXI again on TOS and got 0 =(

Guess I gotta learn to get up early in the morning!
  • Reaper
Let's see if I learned anything from the DVDs: I would say that ZYXI is a great overnight short for a gap down tomorrow, maybe to support at around $2.50. Here's what I see now: first down day, fades in the afternoon (after quick panic/spike in morning). Not ideal, but not bad. Whatdya say, Tim? Do I pass the test?
  • preisendanz
When is ZYXI going to just break down? I'm surprised it hasn't happened yet...Tim, are you going to hold overnight?
  • YoungGunz
ahh, i had a contractor over at my house when i saw it. i didn't read his details of what happened until after i posted and checked the main site blog. I thought he got in during the panic and didn't get in until it dropped to 3.18 not on the bounce back.

I asked if there are any available again and got a big no. I may try back again later if volume starts to pick up near the close.
  • yaktipper
I should say shorted on the bounce....
  • yaktipper
Young, Tim did miss the first drop and bought on the bounce at 3.18, so the answer to your questin is yes!
  • brent
Tim, looking like a red day on WSCI and fading volume... What is your opinion?
  • astaluss1
check out HEPH if it hits 2 i think its got some room to run
  • brent
    never mind wasn't logged in.
  • brent
anyone having problems posting on free forum? I don't even know if my refresh is working. When i try to post i go to the unable to open site ..... window.
  • YoungGunz
ToS hasn't told be they don't do shorts for otcbb but they sure as heck never have any shares for me to borrow when I ask. Looks like others have no problem getting them though. I was off by about 15 mins from the alert this morning? I saw zyxi made it to 2.80ish for a very short time and has bounced back to 3.20. I guess I didn't miss out on much yet.

Tim would you enter zyxi now at 3.20 if you didn't already earlier today?
  • kelvin
500x500 (ZYXI) .. always see that with tim's pick
  • brent
Tim; any alerts going into close?
  • PCola
Okay, just wondering if you had ever looked into how any of these work over the course of your trading.
  • no idea, every service uses different variables, none of which i've seen to work very consistently
  • PCola
Hey Tim, that leads me to a question. The parents of one of my neighbors use vector vest and my neighbor (not into trading) said they like it, but he doesn't really even know what it is. Do you know the premise of VV? Like how do they pick stocks, how do they get the info out to people, etc? never botehred checking into it, but was always curious.
  • wsci was pumped by vector vest was a good dropper this morning for 50 cents, i was too timid
  • bestdeception
Since it'd be a short term play, I look at the 15 min and 60 min. There is a slight downturn on RSI, but it's too minimal in my opinion. If the 15 min can break through 50 pretty strong, it'd be a great short IMO. The RSI has bounced off the 50 on the 15 min chart now twice in the past couple days. I want it to blow through that.
  • brent
bestdeception: what time frame you looking at for RSI, Daily?
  • brent
    short yes
  • kelvin
I shorted and cover twice. Thinking about to short again but not sure about the price tho
  • bestdeception
About WSCI, the MACD looks pretty bearish (I'm assuming you're talking about going short, not long), the RSI hasn't quite turned enough for me to like it, and volume is drying up. Maybe a short candidate, but not sure at this point. You mean short right??
  • brent
    those would be million shares
  • brent
according to yahoo finance WSCI has only 2.83 shares outstanding and 2.7 in the float. Sure looks like a MM manipulator to me. Either long or short. What you think Tim...
  • kelvin
What you guys think about wsci?
  • brent
YG: check out WSCI... whaada ya think?
  • YoungGunz
Couldn't get shit for them in the morning for reserve or after your alert went out. sure hope a nas company starts to show up on the watchlist.
  • MikeY
    none available on TOS :(
